Maybe somebody can help me..I ordered CHUD and Diamond Guys Vol 1 (along with others) during the target sale about 2 months ago. One has a damaged case/art and is still sealed and the other I opened not realizing the art had a 1/2" tear on the spine. Do you guys think I could get these replaced through arrow or get replacement cover arts? Should I use product@arrowfilms.co.uk for USA products also?

After 3 years Arrow has yet to get any real access to the Hollywood studios in the US. It seems more likely to me that we see a Shout Select release of Ronin in the US and an Arrow release in the UK.

Should this trend be about to change, Ronin would sure be a nice way to start!

I met Frank Henenlotter last weekend at NJ Horror Con and he told me that Arrow will be doing a new Blu Ray of BASKET CASE once the MOMA restoration is complete. He said there will be new bonus features, including an early film of his that he seemed to feel was not very good.

A number of directors behind future Academy releases:

Forthcoming releases include films by Robert Aldrich, Federico Fellini, Georges Franju, Jean Gremillon, Joseph H Lewis, Ermanno Olmi, Elio Petri, Francesco Rosi, Roberto Rossellini, Billy Wilder, Kiju Yoshida and more!

(Source – Arrow Academy Booklet; the Lewis title now known to be Terror in a Texas Town; the Aldrich title The Big Knife; the Gremillon title The Love of a Woman; the Franju title Spotlight on a Murderer; the Olmi title The Legend of the Holy Drinker. The Petri title could be Property is No Longer a Theft, given that it came out around the same time as the booklet. Since the booklet was seemingly a primer aimed at US customers, the Yoshida release is probably the Yoshida: Love and Anarchism set, and the Petri title Three Brothers or/and The Assassin. This would leave only Fellini, Rossellini and Wilder unaccounted for. That said, it's of course possible that more than one title by said directors may be released)

Providing the hint was about Arrow specifically (it certainly was in part), ‘11 Japanese films, dating from 1964-1978, all for Blu-ray release in 2017. Maybe more’ (while Marc Walkow has provided extras for other companies, including Criterion, some of these releases will undoubtedly come from Arrow. Nine are now known to be Wolfguy: Enraged Lycanthrope, Cops vs. Thugs, Doberman Cop, the New Battles Without Honor and Humanity series and the Sister Street Fighter Trilogy) (Source – Marc Walkow)

Presumably relating to the above in large part, ‘more Miike, more Fukasaku, Sonny Chiba and more’ (unknown yet if there is more of these three to come) (Source – Marc Walkow; further confirmation of upcoming Chiba from Walkow and also Arrow - the statement 'some Chiba stuff' certainly hints at a few titles, but more than two?)

Continuing with Walkow, which again almost certainly aligns with the above, Miike titles aside:

I’ve communicated with the acquisitions team there about dozens and dozens of recommendations, some of them realistic and some of them not. I’m happy to say that Arrow has another deal with Toei in the works, for about a dozen additional titles from the ’60s and ’70s, most of them Blu-ray premieres and many of them never before released on video with English subtitles. I’ve already started doing interviews for that batch, all of which will be out in 2017

DOBERMAN COP, NEW BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR, COPS VS THUGS, the presumed and almost 100% sure going to happen WOLVES, PIGS, & MEN. However, there was actual footage from HOKORIKU PROXY WAR, so that makes me believe that Arrow is releasing this as well. The numbers don't quite add up to 11 as it would be 12 films as the other films in the Toei deal are believed to be MESSAGE FROM SPACE and THE SISTER STREET FIGHTER FILMS, but it might have been a mistake on Marc Walkow's Tweet and might have thought HOKORIKU came out in 1978.

Either way, I think HOKORIKU PROXY WAR is also coming from Arrow as the Fukasaku films that Arrow doesn't have were represented via stills in the essay.

Eating Raoul (UK-only) (Source – This one is currently pretty speculative; a Mark Kermode blog (from 03:13) credits the film to Arrow Video, but this might not confirm anything given that the title was released on DVD by Arrow over 15 years ago. Kermode however mentions that he 'had to watch it again recently', which has led some to speculate that he may be involved in a forthcoming Arrow release)

The Haunting of Julia (AKA Full Circle) (Source – An individual researching the film for a magazine article recently revealed some potential news regarding Arrow's interest in this title in this forum post:

I have been researching this film for some time for an upcoming magazine feature in the UK's Dark Side magazine. I have interviewed the likes of Richard Loncraine, Peter Fetterman, Peter Hannan, Colin Towns etc and found some fascinating material regarding the original version of the film (the version that screened at Cannes in 1977).

Anyway, what I can tell you is that Arrow are indeed circling the film after the negatives etc were found in a Technicolour vault. The issue seems to be the rights - everything is there for a full-scale restoration, but Technicolour will not offer up the goods until they get proof of ownership. This is proving particularly problematic, as so many companies/parties were involved, many which have since been liquidated - Classic Films etc. I know Fetterman and Loncraine are working on this and I have offered my assistance.

For an update, see here. It's currently unknown if Arrow are still interested or would be able to release it if the BFI are successful in their efforts.

Code Red announced that they are releasing City of the Living Dead under the title The Gates of Hell, so that'll be UK only unless this is another Pit Stop situation.

there was big outcry when Criterion went dual format, and i don't understand it. sure, i never watch the DVD unless it has something exclusive on it, but who cares?

With Criterion, the outcry was more about the releases turning into digipacks and taking up too much space. I personally liked the digipacks though, most were very well designed IMHO.

Dual format is also brutal when it comes to boxsets. Imagine how much more compact Zatoichi or Demy would have been without all those dvds. The Criterion releases of both are at least the size of a shoebox.
