You can also play the trailer on Vudu, to see if they will like it. I also take my roku with me to hotels and watch any of my movies easily in the room.

Ahh, I see...I haven't seen that episode yet. Which reminds me, "Futurama" is a series I want to get on DVD (BD?) and binge watch the entire show.

Really? They didn't oust CD, Vinyl had better sales at the back end of the year and they look to be rendered useless if Apple closes down downloads. They were meant to REPLACE CD's!

Yes, stuff like family sharing. I can share my movies with anybody I want, all over the country, and they can share their purchases back. Stuff like D2D also has evolved to help people switch old fashioned discs to the more convenient UV format. Many people buy discs with instawatch (Vudu copy) then sell the disc(s) and any other digital copy included. Yeah, perks like that.

Sure. Almost everybody uses Netflix or the subscription portion of Amazon video. Most people don't care to purchase so they Netflix and rent. I suspect this group will continue to grow at the expense of discs and digital purchases.

However, as the young crowd who are already comfortable with digital, age, and have more disposable income, will purchase digitally imo. Disc I believe, will become a niche collector thing.

The only caveat to the Netflix deal is that they have slowly gone from all movies and no TV, to much less movies and much more TV. A trend that if continues should increase rentals and purchases. Studios can help themselves by keeping all but low sales movies off Netflix, and they control that.

Like I said, these on demand digital music subscription services have replaced mp3s. They let you listen to just about any major album or song on demand and let you download for offline listening. Apple Music, Pandora, Slacker Radio, and many others are the new thing. It's still digital and not physical. Digital music listening has evolved. Just like physical media evolved with DVD to blu-ray but the majority decided to stick with DVD.

"Downloads of digital songs are down. And yet, overall music consumption was up 3%. The reason? On-demand streaming took over the music business."

Not only that, they are slowly not renewing with the studios the content they provide. It's all about their original TV shows and movies now. The deal with FOX was not renewed so shows like The X-files and Buffy are no longer on there.

I don't necessarily like this though, because it allows a lot of people to take advantage of if it, where they either pay very little or nothing at all for content. For instance, Netflix is as cheap chips, however, there are people that I know that still don't want to pay this (who can afford it), and share their logins, so that others they know don't have to pay, or they slip the monthly fee by four so that they only have pay a couple of bucks.

I wouldn't want to do that. some horrors are very adult in nature.

The point is, it's short lived. Also discs are still readily available.

So, I see Subscription replacing Digital HD and forced ads becoming the norm. Movies will lose their value to such a degree that the industry will have to scrape the barrel with subscription fees to at least make something. Same as the music industry.

Of course, the other elephant in the room is the apparent lack of interest in films by the very young. That is a great great worry and some other poster made that very point. (I happen to agree)

See my above post in terms of the 'young crowd'

I've started to use digital to gain the films that are harder to find in HD here in the states. That is the best part of digital.

It is also much easier to get free movies since sometimes people offer their codes. I still prefer physical releases though.

You would think that Fox would respond by making buying The X-Files and Buffy less expensive to induce former streaming customers to buy, but I see little evidence of that, at least on iTunes.

It is odd how expensive some of the very old shows still are on DVD.
