I agree with midnightsailor. I didnt know about it. For years I wished they would get a high resolution format out, pretty much around 2000, and I only found out that dvd-a existed around 2006 or so. By that time I was confused about it, thinking it was just for like....... special features on big releases or something. I had no idea what it was really all about, and then when I heard about SACD I avoided it because I didnt want to take the time to find a player that specifically supported it, I was also turned away by the oddball titles I found though. A portion of it I was really into, but not enough to make me want to reconfigure my equipment. When it comes to Blu-ray audio I wont fully adopt the format unless I can take the high definition tracks and put them on my computer so that I can then put them onto future portable players.

I tend to agree with that Galley. It would have been a much better strategy. Unfortunately, Sony didn't properly support what they created (promotion, marketing, production). And this always confused me. I mean, why create a format, spout its advantages, and then do nothing to bring it to market as a better product.

I LOVE Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks as well! Lol! I want Mac's ENTIRE catelog on Blu-Ray with all the features! The reason Super Audio C.D. and D.V.D.-Audio failed was because c.d.s were only ten years old (for the general public even though they had been out longer to some degree) and there was no way I or anyone else in the public were going to just adapt yet another new format that soon. Again one of the MAJOR failures certain people have in particular in these parts is that the public are NOT going to just keeping buying new formats every ten years and dare I say every twenty. There is no reason. NINETY percent of the general public do not have the time, desire, and more importantly the MONEY to just be jerked around. Remember vinyl was a major format for close to one hundred years before it really started to go away for the most part.

But it's coming back! Maybe only as a niche format, but it's my format of choice for truly listening to great music and recordings! Addendum: 2-Channel ANALOG is alive and Well. 2-Channel Digital is DEAD! |

High quality music will be for those who have the system to enjoy it and will want to purchase either vinyls or CD or maybe soon BD music and pay a certain price for it in order to have the sound quality they are looking for. |

You people are SO unnerving!!! You all sound just like everyone who said that Blu-Ray discs for movies served no purpose and would go no where. The point is that there IS a siginificant problem with people stealing their music off of the internet and there being more to entertain people nowadays BUT the point is that I have listed a dozen different things over the last few YEARS that could be done with Blu-Ray discs that have NEVER been possible for vinyl or compact disc or any other physical format. I don't have any idea how big the market would be or how long it would last but I'll be damned that the public would not be VERY interested in Blu-Ray for a music format with all of the capabilities that it could do. You all also sound like the people here who said that Blu-Ray was just mainly for the quality. That is NOT true after all as it was also for storage space in order to be able to have more things on ONE disc.

- no need for a new dedicated Audioplayer - no rivaling format - people, who watch a live concert or a movie with some outstanding music tracks on BD, will realize how amazingly good a 5.1 or even 7.1 Soundtrack can be, which could very well lead to a demand for studio albums on BD. - if you have a BD Player, you most certainly own a surround receiver and matching speakers, so every BD owner is actually suited to listen to the enhanced music experience. Several million potential buyers already there, waiting to get some supply. - downloadable Mp3 files are no competition to HD audio, so this would be a wise move to reinvigorate the physical media music market. I'm very confident in the future of BD-audio. The majors just need to get their act together... |

There is a definite market for Blu-ray audio. The real question is whether that market is big enough to be a viable business proposition for the music labels. Music sales overall, even factoring in the sale of digital downloads, is down and likely never to return to the levels seen in the late 90's. I expect to see the minor labels attack this problem first. They are already accustomed to lower potential sales on an album and can make a little money even when a title only sells 5000 copies.

Personnally never bought an album in MP3 as i don't pay 10$(whole album) of overcompressed s*** when i can own the CD for 14$ and sample it myself in FLAC on my HDD linked to my 3808ci...
I know that the fact that you can be a single song is appeling tought because a lot of time, some group, the music suck. I'am not a big fan of old rock 1970 and the like. I started listened to music in 1990 for real so i'am not interested in that music.. |

I'm with ya 100% on that score! I have never bought an album or a single from any download site and I never will. People think it's a good deal at $0.99 or $9.99 for the full album, but what do you get? NOTHING! The sound is horrible and doesn't even come close to what the artist recorded. I'll take a physical copy any day of the week. |

I hate CD quality. It sounds like cheap crap, and I agree it could be a lot better. The day bluray becomes a main format for audio will be a dream come true.
To be honest, I think everyone's right in saying SACD failed because of advertising. I never knew what SACD was until I saw a topic here on bluray. In fact, I didn't even know my PS3 could play SACD. FYI, my dad played on stage, I'm a huge music fan, I've been using the internet for 10 years now, I'm 20 in age, all my audio equipment for my car, computers, iphone, and HT are pretty top notch. I still just recently found out about SACD. That's pretty sad. |

CD is not that bad. Most CDs that sound bad, sound bad because auf bad recording/mixing/mastering. Try a well recorded and mastered CD, and listen to it with a good DAC (I use the Aqvox USB 2, but the Benchmark or Apogee DAC seem also to be good value) and it will sound very good. Of course a SACD of this recording will sound even better (I am collecting SACDs for 6 years).
