Well, I was in my late 40s when I bought it because I liked the music, and the animation looked cute. I bought more off the cuff than anything. "This looks fun, why not?"

That was pretty much it.

5 and 6 year olds will watch damn near any piece of family entertainment. But parents all over the face of the planet filming their kids trying to make it all the way through "Let It Go" and posting it on-line? Yeah, the parents were really big into that. REALLY big into that. Late in his life, Walt Disney said he had learned adult women were his most important target audience, because if you got her, you got everybody else...husband, kids. Kids weren't paying for Frozen dresses, kids weren't gassing up the car and driving it to the theater, kids weren't filming themselves singing "Let it Go" in the back of a minivan and posting it on YouTube and Instagram. Parents are responsible for the Frozen thing. And once again, as I have said before, Disney never saw it coming, the people who created it felt lucky to finish it. They were six months out and were doing massive re-writes. What I heard internally was that they felt lucky to get out of it alive. William Goldman called films like this non-recurring phenomenons, because there are so many factors so far out your control, you can't reproduce them. Frozen 2 will do well, I'm sure, but Disney has a difficult track record with sequels in animation, for whatever reason, going all the way back to the 30's and Three Little Pigs.

Why look at the Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm/Pixar lineup they have no need to rush it out.

I really found Frozen to be on the weaker end of the recent Disney animated films. I get why people like it, but I don't understand how it grabbed the world by storm when it was so much weaker than Tangled, and even Princess and the Frog. It just isn't as compelling to me. I really hope the sequel is better, because I don't want more of the same.

Good marketing and a catchy song? Then again audiences are really fickle these days imo.
