Default FPS' overload

Seriously, I like FPS's but I'm not in love with them It seems like there are so many that it's a flood.

MOH:Airborne
Haze
UT3
KZ2
COD4
Halo3
Orange Box
Blacksite:Area 51
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Bioshock

That's 10 FPS's in late 2007 to early 2008 and I'm probably not even remembering all of them.

I hear you. It sucks that the "killer app" at launch for every console since the original Playstation was a FPS. I'm kind of burnt out on them as well.

could add Resistance to that list.

They seem to be big right now, I never really got it, even though I am in a Resistance tournament right now. I find the gameplay unbalanced, and fake. I will take a good 3rd person realistic shooter (i.e. Socom) over these any day.

For whatever reason though they are the current genre driving the industry. Back in early 90's it was fighters, everything from Street Fighter, to Mortal Kombat, drove the industry than. It goes in ways, I am sure the next genre will be around the corner.

Out of your list, I'm only going to buy one on release date; maybe I'll be some others once the price drops on them. I find FPS ok.

It does seem like they were determined to show they could do better than Halo 3, perhaps with more than one title. I love Resistance and still play it, so I will be waiting for the reviews before getting a new FPS. Killzone 2 does look great though, and Haze may be very likely to join my list!

After playing Lair, Heavenly Sword, Folklore and who knows what else, I may be ready for another FPS.

Can't add Resistance to the list, it's already out. The list was talking about upcoming FPS.

The online mulit-player is the reason behind FPSs driving the industry. Think about it, how much time to you play the missions/story mode, now how much time do you play online battling it out with other players?

Honestly I play more single player, although I'm sure I'm in the minority. I can't devote enough time to get good online so anytime I play R:FoM I instantly get rocked, I haven't won a game yet, so I never play online.

Well I agree, I like the single player/or co-op mode. I'm not a big fan on mulit-player battles, but I play them from time to time. Like you said we're in the minority.

I don't really get sick of FPS games, but I would like to see more platforming games.

I love FPS to death. I'll probably get every one of those games that is released for the PS3. I like third-person shooters as well, but I find so few satisfying. Gears of War was the last one that satisfied me and I refuse to buy a 360 for just one game.

I love playing multiplayer online, but I'm having trouble with my wi-fi nowadays so I'm just sticking with singleplayer.

And I remember when RPGs were a huge force in the industry. Between the SNES and Playstation it was a huge time for them. From Chrono Trigger to the Mana series, Final Fantasy IV-IX, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia, Lunar, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross. That's really all I ever played back in those days. Thank God I have more time on my hands now lol.

It's because making 1st person shooters is 'easier'.

There are literally tons of tools for making them, mostly the Unreal Engine, so developers can simply plug in their concept.

Some psychology points to more 'immersion' with a 1st person perspective; however, personally I liked the third person GOW feel. Felt like I could see more and actually 'seeing' my character helped me to identify with it. Having a completely customizable character in a 3rd person shooter (giving it almost a RPG level of character development) would be simply awesome for me.

Hope they make one.

Not sure if there's a third person view but Fallout 3 might be right up your street.

Army of Two is gonna be something like that, with the third person controls and near total customization.

FPS's are getting tedious. I prefer a full body 3P or an over-the-shoulder like Resident Evil 4. Fallout 3 is supposed to be Resident style isn't it?

Army of Two will be a great game!

Out of that list I'm getting:

Haze
Killzone 2
UT3

Wait,
All of them except Bioshock. Lol.

Those were the days, I still play more classic RPGs than anything else.

What about "The Darkness????" Slightly different than most FPS.
I played this one over the weekend and could not put it down. I'm
usually not that big on FPS, but I had a lot of fun with this one.
Anyone else familiar with this title???

I also rented "The Darkness" this weekend. I've played for about 5-6 hours and it's a pretty good games. Weapons are nothing special and the Darness power are ok. I will finish it but I would never buy it.

We need to have a lot of FPS because 50% of them suck. So the more we have the better chance of good ones we have.
