2 factors on why 8K is pointless:

1) There are only three or four hundred films that were shot in 65mm that could take advantage of this.

2) The aforementioned 65mm films would have to have received 8K DIs or at least 4K. Most of them haven't even been given recent 2K scans.

I won't buy it. 99% of films are shot in 35mm so 4K is where I draw the line.
