I just rewatched the previous blu ray, the PQ is very good, but there's room for improvement, I want to see a comparison between the old and remastered blu rays

I think I'll wait for the price to go down first though.
I'm sure they'll remaster the 4k down the line

I am sure caps-a-holic will post it. If I can get this I will have screen caps posted for the new disc tomorrow.

I've never thought of Unforgiven as being political in simple terms (pro-gun, anti-gun, etc.). This film is so much more multi-layered than that.

Like many other Clint Eastwood films, this one deconstructs the mythology of the masculine male hero/gunfighter/etc.

Unforgiven takes place during the final era of the Wild West, when the legendary frontier has become fully self-aware. Pulp paperbacks, such as The Duke of Death, are embellishing and romanticizing the myth of the cowboy gunfighter. Young wannabe gunfighters are giving themselves actual brand names ("The Scofield Kid"). Meanwhile, the real legends have fallen off of the face of the Earth and people are already starting to question the actual deeds of these legends. Lawmen, wary of the romanticism of these legends, try to enforce order in abrasive ways. Enter Eastwood's William Munny, who reluctantly reemerges onto the scene with violent results.

It's a fascinating film, because it has more in common with classic westerns (The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, etc.) than it does with most "Eastwood westerns." It also manages to be a quintessential Eastwood western through and through, though.

I don't see why they'd do 4K AGAIN. Studios at this point are trying to future proof, not make more work for themselves, as that costs a considerable amount of time and money.

Yes, but they'll come with Super-duper Dynamic Range.

I won't buy it. 99% of films are shot in 35mm so 4K is where I draw the line.

Image quality of a Scope aspect film could hit the max on a 65" panel, but size is what is needed. That scope image area is tiny!

The industry isn't ready to introduce consumer friendly projection yet, but I think that's the future. Consider an ultra short throw unit that sits at the front of the room with the UHD player and a speaker bar (for non-home theaters). That's what I believe is inevitable.

Well I would love a huge projector setup like some of you have. Problem is I would need to buy a bigger house

Just to be clear, I understand that most home theater enthusiasts have never contemplated front projection. It's a process at this point. Much planning. Good bit of money. Etc.

I do, however, believe that tech could progress such that ultra short throw in a small, cool, quiet, and affordable unit is perhaps a decade away. Gotta have some consumers get excited and begin to demand it.

What equipment are you using? While there are a few UHD stinkers the vast, vast majority are obvious improvements. In my experience those not getting a nice upgrade are using equipment that isn't really showing UHDs as they should be seen (i.e. no wide color gamut, not enough brightness for HDR, etc.).

While using UHD I had a Samsung JS9500. After returning the Samsung player I later returned the JS9500 and bought a 4k OLED. The 4k oled does UHD too but I already returned the player so I have not watched any UHD on it, although I have heard it is also quite good at it. The JS9500 supposedly got brighter though in HDR mode. The 4k OLED was a HUGE improvement. Normal HD can feel like a big upgrade on it. Some 3D titles 'feel' like HDR with perfect black accentuating everything realistically.

I've never been able to get into this film but I don't know what it is but something about this release (I don't know if it's the cover art or what) makes me want to buy it. I've watched this film 3 times and just haven't been able to get into it.

Well with either of those sets I don't think they were your problem.

Surprising, but maybe you just don't dig on it. Fair enough. It's a pretty huge upgrade for me on the rights discs (Revenant, Star Trek Beyond, etc.) but not everyone will agree. Some even still buy DVDs! So it depends. Fair enough sir.

That's probably about the same number of times that I'VE seen it, and I liked the film!

it gets better on subsequent views, so maybe it didn't click with you yet. I think it slightly drags towards the part before the climax

I'm curious to check the Japanese remake

I keep hoping I will love it. It's happened to me before with films where I've watched them a couple to a few times and ended up loving them when I didn't care for them the first time.
