It's a little confusing because the Warner Bros. trailers list Real 3D and IMAX at the end, whereas Sony's international trailers just list IMAX. Makes me wonder if international markets won't be seeing the film in 3D.

Yeah that's the same thing I saw. If it's between those two, I'll take IMAX (or Dolby) over 3D. But damn, if there's IMAX 3D I'll happily pay a bit more to see it that way.

You could pause that trailer at any point and get a new desktop picture. Oh man. Hopefully this'll be Deakins' year...

Was great to hear some of that Vangelis music again, the images are STUNNING, and it *gasp* doesn't reveal the entire goddamn plot beat-by-beat!

Yeah this just became something I need to see in IMAX 3D opening night (it's in 3D, right?).
Yeah, it was great. I had the wallpaper of Ryan Gosling and hologram Ana De Armas for a bit.
We still don't know much of the plot, a good thing. Vangelis' score is brilliant in Blade Runner so hearing different renditions of the theme in the teaser and trailer was cream worthy.

It's in 3D and according to the IMAX trailer, IMAX 3D as well.
Roger has to win! No real competition but Dunkirk.

I thought there would be talk by now of a double feature with the original. I'd be all over that.
Also, June 25, 2017 is the 35th anniversary of the original. I wonder if they wil come up with another blu ray set.

I'd happily see a double-feature. I've been holding off on a rewatch until when the sequel drops, so a double-feature in theaters would be lovely. As long as it allows me to see the new one in IMAX 3D.

Man, I've never done such a 180 on a movie in my life. Went from being something I couldn't have cared less about to arguably the most anticipated movie for me for the rest of the year.

A double feature would be killer. But hell, I'll take just 2049 in IMAX 3D myself.

I started watching True Detective (S01) a few days ago, and it struck me how magnificent Matthew McConaughey would've been in something like the Blade Runner sequel. No hate for Gosling; I'm a fan. Just a thought I had.

And what a McConnassaince! To go from mostly mediocre romantic comedies in his arguable prime, to genuinely brilliant performances in a slew of films and features is just remarkable. I expect Channing Tatum to hit similar heights once he hits his late 40's, lol.

Canning Tatum is already kicking ass. Granted, not like McConaughey, but still. The guy's a good actor.

But you're absolutely right. The McConnassaince went from those ridiculous rom-coms (though I will say that one with Kate Hudson -- can't remember the name -- where they are searching for somehting is fairly entertaining) to stuff like "True Detective" and Interstellar blows me away.

An even bigger leap is from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation to stuff like True Detective and Interstellar.

Tatum has the potential to emulate a career path similar to McConaughey. I just wonder whether he has the emotional intelligence to tap into whatever it is that actors access when giving those top-tier performances. Yes, I agree, the Hudson rom-com was funny stuff, and I also enjoyed the one with SJP. Interstellar was simply out of this world, no pun, lol. Most of the science-y jargon required a second viewing for me, but I just adored that film.

I simply wasn't old enough (original version), that's my excuse. Kind of weird at the time to see the comic adaptation laying around in toy stores, though...

I think I saw the DC in a college campus theater.

EXCLUSIVE: WE’VE GOT THE EARLIEST BUZZ FOR BLADE RUNNER 2049

Quote:
As I prepare to share some exclusive, insider intel with you about Blade Runner 2049 I feel a need to explain something first:

This news is meant for people fascinated by the filmmaking process. If that’s not you, and you’re someone who simply cares about seeing the finished product once it arrives at your local cineplex, then this is not for you. You are free to go. I mention this because a few weeks ago, we published a report about some of the extensive work that’s been done on Justice League since its inception and the scope of the work that is still to come. I made very clear that this wasn’t bad news, and that it wasn’t a negative knock on the production at all. It was just us merely offering you some insight into the kind of effort being put into JL and why it’s so important for Warner Bros. to get this right. Still, some people decided on their own to freak out.

So, again, this report here is squarely aimed at those who like seeing how the donuts are made. It’s not good news; It’s not bad news; It’s just some insider 411 on the status of Blade Runner 2049, the hotly-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s seminal sci-fi classic.

Last night, while I was at a press screening for The Mummy in Times Square and Splash Report editor-in-chief Kellvin Chavez was at the red carpet premiere with Tom Cruise in New York, a top secret screening was taking place on the other side of the Hudson River. Around 300 people were invited to take part in a test screening for an unknown film. Security was tight, as they each had to pass through metal detectors, and they even had to have their picture taken before they could be allowed into the theater.

The 300 unsuspecting moviegoers each made their way into the theater and found their seats, still without a clue as to what they were about to watch. All they knew was that, based on the “similar movies” mentioned in their invitations, it seemed to be an R-rated science fiction movie. And then, moments before the film begins, it’s announced:

They’re about to watch the first cut of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, which doesn’t arrive in theaters until October 6!

Once it was over, the test audience was asked to give their reactions to what they’d just watched. These confidential notes will now go back to the studio, which will assess how to tweak the film in the months to come. But luckily for you Blade Runner fans out there, we happened to have a spy on hand who’s very intimately aware of the goings-on at test screenings like this.

Our little bird has flown home today to share with us the earliest buzz on Blade Runner 2049, and it’s…not great.

It would appear that the general consensus was that the film’s pacing is plodding, and that it drags with a running time of nearly three hours. Simply put, it didn’t test very well.

What’s interesting is that pacing is a recurring critique when it comes to test screenings for Villeneuve’s films. He’s a filmmaker who enjoys a good slow burn, but his initial cuts tend to be a little too slow. Similar complaints were brought up after test screenings for Sicario and Arrival, the director’s last two efforts. The good news is, in both instances, the films got substantially tightened up because of the test screening responses. The results? Sicario was a critical darling and indie hit that is spawning a sequel, and Arrival was nominated for multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture!

So here’s hoping that these initial not-so-hot responses lead to the same outcome for Blade Runner 2049, and that it ends up getting edited down and streamlined before it arrives in theaters in four months.

I, for one, am a huge Villeneuve fan so I’m not worried. I thought Sicario was phenomenal, and Arrival was damn near a religious experience for me when I saw it in theaters. In fact, I just re-watched it over the weekend so that my wife could experience it for himself. In Villeneuve, I’ve found a filmmaker I haven’t been this excited about since Christopher Nolan arrived on the scene in 2000.
Hmmmmmm...

It's supposed to be slow and plodding, It's Blade Runner! If you tighten it up and make some fast past movie, I'm almost certain they would be cutting out the heart of what makes it Blade a Runner. It has to be slow, thought provoking, and meticulous. The fact that it tested poorly makes me think he may have gotten it right. People didn't know what they were looking at when they saw the first one. Just who is this test audience made up of anyway?
