Thanks for confirming that. Yes, "fizzy" is a great way to put it. Yeah, I am leaning more on the RS400 now to get HDR with a custom gamma curve which I am hearing raves about and move away from SDR conversion. I won't get near 100% DCI coverage I get now, but the RS400 does pretty darn good there based on a couple of cal reports I've seen especially since it has no P3 filter. But I think moving away from the conversion process, as good as the UB900 does this, will be a very nice improvement itself. I won't miss removing the Linker from my chain either.

So my local Best Buy says shipping only option with no store pick up but I passed by yesterday and they had 1 copy on the shelf. The slip was a little damaged on the left corner so I didn't buy it. Sooo what's the hold up with this? Are they being lazy and not putting all copies out?

I believe they only allow store pick-up orders if the store has a certain amount of copies (3?).

You'll want to leave the Linker in place with a 400. This will make it so you don't have to manually shift to the custom HDR gamma everytime you watch a movie, you'll just select that input mode and it will stay there. I would also recommend that you try and get a 500 if your budget will allow it. The increases in brightness, contrast and getting true P3 are well worth the increase in price. AVS sales has some great deals going on for the 500, if you're in the market.

I ordered my copy of Unforgiven from Best Buy yesterday after canceling my Amazon order, and it shipped earlier today.

I checked the Best Buy website, and got the same message. But, I then went to my nearest Best Buy, and they had two copies on the shelf. I grabbed one, and promptly canceled my order with Amazon (which I had placed last October!).

Exactly. A store needs at least 3 in-stock for the website to say it is available and WB hasn't sent any of them more than 2.

I'm okay switching modes as I will be watching more BDs than UHD BDs and have to change modes for scope vs 16:9. The only reason I went with the RS400 was the price was ridiculously low (from AVScience) and I tried out two RS500s before and the bright corners drove me nuts as my room is very black. I saw an RS600 with similar issues too. That issue seems to be a lot less of a problem on the RS400 with the higher black floor. Also, there is always the chance I upgrade in 2018 so less loss on return.

You should look into the RS500 price at AVScience. The rep will answer questions as well. Seems it's going to be five years or so before hybrid laser full 4K will be affordable, so stretching just a bit could pay off. Most are using the Linker, from what I can tell.

Wow, this is one gorgeous transfer from Warner Bros. Out of the 45 titles I own, this is def one of my favourites for catalogue titles. This is what I expect from 4K remasters.

Would those of you that happen to have both the Unforgiven and Goodfellas UHD discs be able to briefly compare the two? Not with each other obviously, I'm actually just curious as to whether or not the 4k of Goodfellas upgrade (PQ) is on par with the level we got with the Unforgiven 4k (all things being equal IOW). It seems Unforgiven is getting strong reviews and worth the $$ (have it and agree) but Goodfellas was more mixed, at least here. Is that because the GF 25th BD was that good (I have the 25th of Goodfellas) and the previous Unforgiven was kinda "heh" to begin with so naturally the new Unforgiven is the better leap in quality? If someone could tell me the 4k of GF is every bit on par as the upgrade quality we're seeing with Unforgiven then maybe I'll grab it too now. Or maybe it's more subtle and not quite as noticeable as Unforgiven, etc. Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

A few things need to happen before I'm getting a 4K TV--educating myself more about HDR and nits; more uniform implementation of HDR processing in displays; plus Dolby Vision software hitting the market are three of them.

1) Only you can make this happen
2) If you mean HDR10 then I wouldn't count on it
3) DV UHD discs are coming, e.g. Despicable Mes and Furious 8 from Uni, Power Rangers from Lionsgate and Resident Evil Vendetta from Sony. The movies won't be to everyone's taste, but it's a start.

Re #1: Gee, really? Thanks for informing me of that.

My post did not quote, reference, was not in response nor was not directed to you at all. You're such a tool, dude. Why not go back to ignoring my posts. Please.

I own both, and your explanation for why Unforgiven is recommended, is right on the dot. It captured all the good things that GF and even Ghostbusters did, but with minimal grain, and great detail.

Heh heh heh, why not say how you're really feeling? It was meant humourously, but I guess we've both reached that level where the instinct is immediately to rip the piss out of the other guy. I love you too Paul. Never forget that.

I disagree that my instincts are to "rip the piss out" of you, Geoff. More often I just roll my eyes and move on. I think this has been my m.o. regarding you for over a year now.

I appreciate your obvious technical knowledge and often colorful word choice sprinkled with British vernacular. Though I do feel that you would be better served either including something in your signature or profile that identifies wherefrom this knowledge flows (are you a retired below-the-line industry professional?) because you so often weigh forth with said knowledge to correct/amend/take issue with other members' contributions.

What I have a problem with is your recent tendency to be amongst the first--if not the first--to respond to a post of mine not at all directed at or responding to you with seemingly no motivation other than to take issue with something I've shared, whether it comes from a humorous place or not. You've done it just now here and you did it in the "Where's MGM?" thread two weeks ago (an instance in which what you were positing in response to my contribution/question proved flat out wrong, which you acknowledged). I have not done this to you.

It's unbecoming and not conducive to the spirit of community that some people say should rule the day on an enthusiast forum. It's an area for improvement, no?

How much is the JVC RS400, RS500 and RS600, exactly @ AVS?
https://discuss.avscience.com/?topic=252.0

Two, did any of those have the vertical banding issue when engaging CMD (Clear Motion Drive)?
https://discuss.avscience.com/?topic=386.0

Three, did you guys watch the 25th Anniversary 'Unforgiven' remastered on Blu recently? ...And on 4K and remastered on Blu-ray @ 1080p
And with the new lossless hi-res audio soundtrack (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1)
