It's great to see this get solid reviews. DC needed this, and hopefully it will boost people's opinions of DC., and in turn their box office.

That said, this film will only increase the hate for Snyder, and personally I haven't much agreed with the average critic consensus in a while, so I'm worried that what I loved in BvS will be missing in this. I'm also worried that the reason it has such positive reviews is because it doesn't try to tackle anything outside of being another entertaining popcorn muncher like most comic book flicks.

Hopefully it is a nice balance between the two, but I loved BvS because it like nothing like the other episodic comic book films. It's up there with the best because it tried to do more with its deconstruction of the superhero.

It won't have the kind of preciptious second-week drop that BvS had -- The Mummy may be coming next weekend but I don't think it'll pose much of a challenge domestically -- but if WW crosses $300M domestically I'll be impressed. Nothing against the movie but the domestic B.O. just ain't all it's cracked up to be.

How so? It's not like WB throws out bad reviews for films, they post them all. The only thing they could possibly manipulate is the critics concensus.

It will probably end up in the $700M area world wide when all is said and done, a fine outing for a standalone origin film.

Yeah that'd be my guess as well. I initially thought closer to $600M but good reviews should buoy it an extra hundred mil or so.

One factor is people wanting to get to the character fully formed and not feeling they have to sit through most of a movie to only see that at the end.

The other maybe bigger issue is that we've seen so many superhero origins, and so many have such similar beats, that it can feel a bit tired. I loved Doctor Strange, for instance, but it admittedly didn't feel nearly as fresh as it would have if we hadn't already gotten so many other origins that did similar things.

But given the enthusiasm that we're seeing for WW, I don't think too many are fearful of that. I'm pretty stoked for this.

Yeah, I agree that the top 2 films are 'most likely' out of reach for Wonder Woman... but I wouldn't doubt at all that she takes the 3 or 4 spot here. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has been the only real success story this summer movie season so far... and I get a sense people are clamoring for something good to see at the box office after a round of stinkers. I'm guesstimating 300 to 350 million domestic with these extremely positive reviews and a positive word of mouth. A lot of people are rooting for this film and with the positive spin we're seeing so far... the flood gates could really open in my humble opinion. We shall see!!! My Daughter and I will be there Friday for sure!!!

DC domestic box office numbers:

1. The Dark Knight - $533,345,358
2. The Dark Knight Rises - $448,139,099
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - $330,360,194
4. Suicide Squad - $325,100,054
5. Man of Steel - $291,045,518
6. Batman - $251,188,924
7. Batman Begins - $205,343,774
8. Superman Returns - $200,081,192
9. Batman Forever - $184,031,112
10. The LEGO Batman Movie - $175,388,527
MCU for reference:

The Avengers - $623,357,910
Age of Ultron - $459,005,868
Iron Man 3 - $409,013,994
Captain America: Civil War - $408,084,349
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - $338,468,927

Wonder Woman should be able to do at least as well as Iron Man 3 right? That would put it right behind the Nolan Batman movies. I think it will definitely pass Suicide Squad and be the best box office earner for the current DCU.

WW's Origin is one of the better comic book origins.

Personally I'd love to see it take the top spot but I just don't see it happening. Like you, I think it does have a real shot at topping Suicide Squad, and potentially even BvS.

Iron Man 3 had the benefit of following up The Avengers, a lot of its B.O. haul was a result of goodwill for that movie. I doubt WW will enjoy the same benefit.

All good points.

I guess I'm more patient than most and love seeing the origin, the evolution of a character, their motivations and their change to becoming the hero. As a comic fan, whether I have previous knowledge of the source material or not, I like having that history shown and the personal investment in the character earned over the course of a movie's story.

I don't understand "Disney owns RT and the critics" how is WW doing well? LOL

Really honestly relieved that this movie is getting great reviews. I was going to see this regardless but I'm more optimistic about it.

Wow, looks like the "early buzz" turned out to be true for once. Surprised the reviews are THIS positive. Average score of 7.8/10 from the first 55 reviews or so is nothing to sneeze at. Wonder if it will stay above 90% when they are all in?

WW should be massive at the BO. Its positioned extremely well (two+ weeks head of Cars & Transformers), has very broad appeal and the reviews suggest really good word of mouth.
