I'm as big a Cruise fan as anyone I know but are people seriously talking about The Mummy as any type of threat? If it opened to more than WW's 2nd weekend it'd be an upset.

I loved Ghost in the Shell. It would have done better if marketed correctly. It may have been better reviewed if portions weren't edited out.

This seems to be the prevailing sentiment around the Net about the good critic reviews...

"It only has good reviews because critics can't say anything bad or they are sexist. God forbid a DCU movie be objectively good, right?"

Are critics afraid of a new era PC feminist backlash? Since the movie isn't awful, might as well give it a pass?? If it was bad, they couldn't look the other way but since it's mediocre, cut it some slack and praise it to keep the social justice crowd off their case.

Some people are brining up the 73% Ghostbusters (2016) with a 53% audience review.

I believe this is what happened with Ghostbusters. A lot of critics gave it a good review to fight the backlash or to avoid get attacked even if they didn't think it was any good. Likewise I'm sure there were MRA types who actually enjoyed the Ghostbusters but continued to say they hated it to keep up appearances.

But the buzz for Wonder Woman and Ghostbusters aren't even on the same level here, outside of a few crybabies who were offended they couldn't go to the women's-only screenings.

So you're saying The Mummy is dead.

I mentioned it. I am not that knowledgeable regarding box office trends. I thought Tom Cruise was usually a big box office draw.

Cruise is more a box office draw overseas.

Outside of MI, his movies can barely make $100M in the States even ones that get stellar reviews like Edge of Tomorrow.

I don't think that's the 'prevailing sentiment' anywhere.

He's a draw in that he gets people to go see movies they otherwise wouldn't go see. His movies don't have these big $100 million openings, but at the same time, the actors aren't the draw for those type of movies. Think of how much less Edge of Tomorrow would've made with Robert Downey Jr. as the star, for example.

Well considering EOT only did $100D/$370WW, not sure if RDJ would have been worse box office wise.

FYI the left-leaning, uber-PC (I hate that word) Guardian newspaper savaged WW in their review today. Two stars. So any theories about critics taking it easy on the film in case of a feminist backlash are a tad inaccurate.

Sounds like we have a true blockbuster on our hands. The ripple effect will be very substantial. It's going to drive up JL numbers pretty good because now people will want to see it because Wonder Woman is in it and not just for Superman or The Batman. Plus, Batgirl will get a boost when it comes out. I'm not as sure about Captain Marvel because the character doesn't carry them same iconic status but it probably will benefit as well.

It seems some people are actively stating they hope the movie does poorly and are screaming about all the positive reviews. Why do they want the movie to fail? Are they sexist against a movie starring a woman and directed a woman? Are they people who hate comic book movies? Are they people who hate the DCU and prefer the MCU? I just don't get it! Why not root for the movie to do well?

Bingo ^. He's thought of as a huge movie star and he very much is in that old-fashioned sense of the word, but outside of his MI franchise he's not an automatic draw. If Mummy ends up with more than $500M worldwide I'd be surprised, Wonder Woman will beat it quite easily I think.

Wish you had Posted the Review, I would love to know why a Liberal Paper
would bash Wonder Woman.

Hmmm, must be because she still has to depend on a MAN (Steve Trevor ) in the Movie ??

I'm getting so excited for this Thursday at 7PM, can't wait!

Before we can ponder the finer details of this Sapphic utopia, though, the menfolk literally crash the party. A plane piloted by an American spy (Chris Pine) plunges into the sea, a flotilla of Germans close behind. After one of the most agreeably bizarre action scenes ever staged – a beachfront battle-of-the-sexes between men with guns and pirouetting women with bows and arrows – Diana is compelled to enter “the world of men” and stop the war, aided by her sword, shield and magic lasso.

All that confirms is that at least SOME of the Disney checks got cashed
