Be careful what you buy. Not sure if you have done any research and came acroos this information, but there are a lot of polybag options out there that are made from substandard ingredients which breakdown over time, slowly eat away at the steelbook, and cause rusting to occur.

I just prefer to keep my steelbooks "unprotected." They so rarely get taken off of the shelves anyhow, and I'm just super careful when I do handle them. I have yet to experience any damage whatsoever from the time of purchase (oldest going back 8.5 years now).

Did this research mention any brands?

I just remember reading a discussion about this topic a couple of years ago. Since I was never interested in using any bags or anything to "protect" my collection, I never bothered to look into which ones exactly fell into this category. Sorry.

What's a keepcase? How does it differ from full slip steel books?

Keepcase should be an amaray case housed in a slipbox.

When the retailer opens a box full of steelbooks, the spines are facing upwards where the exacto-knife (box cutter blade) runs to cut the tape that seals the box closed. When that blade travels through to the spine and cuts a very fine line through the title label on the spine of the steelbook, you then are looking at a SPINESLASH.

It will run from the front edge of the steelbook case to the back edge of the steelbook case right in the middle of the spine label. It's pretty difficult to miss if it is there.

Just google image "spine slash" and tons of examples will show up.

Hi everyone. Okay, first post here. Until about a month ago, I had no idea there was a collectors edition-type option for Blu Rays, so please forgive my questions:

I just recently acquired the Batman v Superman HDzeta boxed set last week and I am in love with it. I happen to randomly come across a Youtube video and I knew I had to have it, no matter the cost; my obsession with that movie knows no bounds. Anyway, doing some cursory research, it appears there are companies like HDzeta, KimchiDVD and Blufan, that do similar things.

As far as I know, HDzeta and KimchiDVD usually release three or so versions per special release, usually some sort of collectors edition, and two other versions like a full slip or lenticular cover. Some of these can be purchased through group buys, and others through the website. I think Bluefan only does one version per release? Am I correct so far?

My questions:

1) Is there any crossover between the three companies? eg: Will two of them do a special release for the same movie?
2) When are these usually announced? Do they get announced for release similar to the regular release date of the basic blurays? Or is there usually a 6-12 month gap? I think BvS got released in July but the HDzeta wasn't until December or something, so I assume there's at least a 6 month gap?
3) Which of the three is better? Or is it last question redundant because a) there is little to no crossover between the companies, and b) It's just a matter of personal taste and what one is looking for in a special collector's release.

At any rate, I also bought the Inception boxed set from HDzeta, so it's fair to say that I'm hooked. Already eyeing one of the Snowpiercer KimchiDVD releases. My wife is already not happy with my spending, lol.

Thanks.

1) Yes, it's possible. Especially if there is a Global Art steelbook. You could have everyone releasing their own version with different slipcovers/booklets/cards, etc. For exclusive steelbooks, Novamedia released John Wick as an exclusive and then Filmarena also released it maybe a year later. It's rare that they will have 2 exclusive steels going on at the same time.
2) 4-6 Months is your average window from announce date to release date generally especially if it's an exclusive steelbook. Kimchi and HDZeta might shorten it to 2 months if they are putting out a release that has a global steel involved.
3) You really can't say who is the best until you get in-hand pictures. Sometimes the lenti from Blufans is better. Sometimes there is extra detailing on the slips that we didn't know about beforehand. Manta Lab has been pretty good with their releases so far. It's hard to pick a winner

So why is it that Best Buy steelbooks released here in the US a lot of times do not have any embossing or debossing yet their identical WWA steelbook counterparts in other countires have it? Or sometimes we don't get a steelbook version at all while every other country does? Dead Pool is a good example of the embossin/debossing and just this week there's no The Great Wall steelbook while it's available in every other country. I don't mind importing but it makes me sad that they aren't up to the same standards here as abroad.

And then there's the original Force Awakens steelbook. Best Buy had the far superior steel while the rest of the world had to put up with the plain, matte, flat thing with no title on front or spine.

So sometimes you get the good release and sometimes the rest of the world does.

Are there different editions of blue rays? For instance, will Star Wars Rogue 1 best buy release a second print after they sell out of the first one? I know there are various TYPES of the same movie.. How about editions/prints?

Default Question about Best Buy Exclusive X Men Steelbooks.

Sorry if there is a better thread this could have been posted in, but I used the search function for a good 10 minutes and found nothing appropriate.

My question, Do the Best Buy Exclusive steelbooks of X Men, X2, X Men 3 and First Class have the same special features that the original Blu Ray releases of these films had?

The First Class steelbook has no mention of special features on the back of the case, while the original Blu Ray had quite a few special features.

Can anyone clarify?

Thanks.

These are the same discs that came out before. Any special features will be the same. These only come with 1 disc so if the original release had a disc 2 then those features will be absent here.
