Ugh, even when it gets good reviews, these threads always wind up turning into a complete mess. This is why we can't have good things. Too much cynicism will always spoil the broth and continuous second guessing will scramble the brainwaves. The film has great reviews and looks like we're back to DC delivering crowd pleasing films, hopefully finding it's footing moving forward.

Saw an early screening, really enjoyed it! Both Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were fantastic. I can't wait to see it again, already have Imax tickets on Thursday night.

The response I heard walking out the theater was a little mixed, plus my friend didn't like it...

And Im saying, no, I give it high praise because I love 1900s adventure films and superhero movies with balance, heart and soul.

I think you'll like it.

I think there are people that may like it because they just do and there will also be people that like it because their expectations are lowered. It doesnt matter. Even so, a good strategy to enjoy any kind of movie is to always lower your expectations.

Now if you want an amazing story, back away - not too many superhero movies have great stories besides Winter Soldier and Nolan's Dark Knights.

But if you want to see a fun superhero movie with heart and soul, and sexy Amazonian women kick German ass, then Wonder Woman will be for you.

I've just watched it and I love it! Seems like a good year for superhero movie, can't wait for JL & Ragnarok
The only thing I didn't like is Ares' armor, it's just scrap metal combined, dear god why? I expected a cool transformation sequence

Yes I do, but it's still something that might get you inundated by droves of internet trolls anxious to tell how much of a cuck you are or "accusing" you of being a jew or both.

Are critics afraid of a new era PC feminist backlash? Since the movie isn't awful, might as well give it a pass?? If it was bad, they couldn't look the other way but since it's mediocre, cut it some slack and praise it to keep the social justice crowd off their case.
Or simply most critics are feminists of some kind?
If they thought the movie was bad but for the message they would have slammed it without esitating, probably with some caveat like "its heart is in the right place but the rest sucks".
Besides, female empowerment tends to be gotten wrong in bad movies, bad writers have a tendency to copy old tropes and being exceptionally bad at the relatively new ones like the female action hero because they have not much material to rip off in the first place.

Directing isn't a man's job, it's not gender specific... sexist!

Since we have similar taste, how does it compare to Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Rocketeer, The First Avenger and The Phantom?

In fact, I haven't seen a another CBM in four years since Man of Steel and I have not looked back since.
Ok, just trying to understand here... you say you're suffering from total superhero burnout but in a previous post you stated that you've read through 'every single' Wonder Woman review out there... which as it stands now is in the 70's somewhere. Question...

If you're suffering from superhero burnout why would read through every single WW review?????? Why would you even be taking the time to do this or even post in a superhero forum????? I'm really looking forward to the film and have't even read 'every single review'.

The reviews are actually making me want to see this.

With the exception of Logan - which I went to see out of obligation for finishing what I started in July of 2000, and which I had a mixed reaction to - the only times I've watched newer superhero movies is when I'm dragged to the theatre. I don't watch them to say I've seen them or so I can bash them. I just avoid them.

Case in point: I thought Man of Steel was garbage. (I know its defenders are shocked that anyone could hate a film they love but they can deal with their insecurities on their own time.) That's why I avoided Batman v Superman (although I amusingly and randomly happened to catch the "Martha" scene on TV last week) and Suicide Squad.

Wonder Woman looks like it has colors, strong acting from its lead actress*, plus the right mix of adventure and comic timing (not getting any jokey MCU vibes, thankfully). I barely know anything about the character because I'm not really a comic book guy so I'm intrigued and bewildered by all the seemingly incongruous shit happening in the trailers.

The innocent, empathetic, loving way Diana is allegedly portrayed in WW is something I've been aching to see in one of these movies for a change. And if it means that the film people have been waiting a hell of a long time for is good, let alone great, then that's awesome! It's about time we got a female superhero film that didn't suck. I know it means a lot to all the girls and women out there, and some of the reactions are moving.

Best of all, this supposedly stands well on its own and doesn't waste time setting up other aspects of the cinematic universe or basically being another cog in the machine.

*Remember when this forum and the fanboys trashed Gal Gadot all those years ago?

Usually when movies get scores this high, I tend to read all the reviews to get some kind of idea of what all the hubbub is all about and that's for any genre, even if I don't intend to actually see them.
