A true 4K DI is nice to have, but I rank 4K resolution last in terms of the relative PQ improvement it offers over a standard blu-ray; HDR and WCG are much more significant.
So I will never use a 2K DI as the sole measure when deciding to purchase a UHD disc. |

This movie looks like it will be terrible!
Terrible afternoon fodder you'd find on Cartoon Network or USA Network back in the early 90s. Looks like no one tried with this movie and that is what Warner Bros. says!!!! Oh well... Always looking forward to the Lethal Weapon reboot.... ![]() |

It's a lot more time and work to finish these effects at 4K. Computing time, storage space/management, slows things down, etc. Especially when the time deadlines are so crazy.

It gets plenty of flack -- and rightly so -- for any movie where there's a 3D Blu-ray version available. Since it's a 2K DI the definitive version of Wonder Woman will thusly be the 3D Blu-ray version. |

The 4K UHD will have HDR/Dolby Vision which is how it is going to be shown in Dolby Cinemas (and maybe IMAX?) and the higher bitrate will likely make the UHD version closer to the 2K DCP than the 1080p BD. 2K is technically higher res than 1920, so UHD can resolve all the detail. The definitive version will be the HDR version, which is the 4K version. I'm speaking as a 3D fan, but I usually only buy 3D if the director considered it an important part of the film. With most of the DC movies, they're shot with no real consideration for 3D. |

Like most movies, Wonder Woman was shot in 2D and converted to 3D during post production with minimal involvement from the director. It's in fact rare that a director takes a big role in the 3D conversion (Doctor Strange for instance). Wonder Woman was also color graded with HDR/Dolby Vision in mind. The 1080p 3D Blu-Ray will be a compression of the 2K DI. So... technically if you want to own the movie in it's native format the UHD is the way to go, as you'll get a higher quality version of the movie that will be closer to the 2K DI and will have HDR/Dolby Vision, which the movie was shot, edited and color graded with in mind.
This is the "native 3D" vs "Post-converted 3D" argument all over again. Just because Wonder Woman isn't "native 4K", it doesn't mean the UHD will not be an improvement over the 1080p Blu-Ray. I own quite a lot of films that had 2K DIs and I would say every one of them is a massive improvement over the Blu-Ray in terms of color, detail and contrast. Yeah movies are darker, but they're supposed to be darker (everyone forgets darker darks is a major part of HDR as well as brighter brights). The definitive home video version of Wonder Woman will be the UHD Blu-Ray, as that will be the version closest to the 2K DI and Patty Jenkins's intent for the film. Besides, if the 3D is anything like the other DC movies it'll be nice but won't really add anything to the movie and won't be worth the sacrifice of HDR/Dolby Vision. |

Could someone please ask the director on Twitter if this has a 4K DI?
https://twitter.com/pattyjenks I tried contacting the DP, but I am not getting an answer. |

Saw this opening night in Australia tonight. The movie was spectacular - not just the first good DC movie (in my personal opinion), but my new favourite superhero movie across all properties. I cannot wait to see this again. Plenty of material in there that should look absolutely stunning in UHD with HDR. Saw it in a Dolby Atmos cinema, sounded fantastic, so pretty excited for the audio mix on the home release as well.
