Maybe he was also behind the idea of scrapping the number after the Mission: Impossible titles which started with Ghost Protocol.

Maybe, but he was still a producer on the series back when they were titled Mission Impossible II and III. I thought Ghost Protocol had more to do with it being kind of a soft reboot. Might say something about their plans for the new Top Gun, especially if it sounds like this is just gonna be another "reboot/sequel."

Kilmer says he's ready, although the poor fella looks like he's been through the grinder (presumably because of the cancer). Would love to see a fit and healthy Val reprise his role as Ice.

The whole movie's gonna be about Maverick teaming up with some new kids to find Iceman, who pops up for 30 silent seconds at the end.

Interesting idea to make a sequel but Tom Cruise I can see being a teacher - good idea is it could either be his son or daughter makes it to Top Gun and he has to try and cool his/her "jets" as they are as hot headed as he was. Tom Skeritt should also make an appearance and so should Michael Ironside.

I think I read something about that, sort of an Instructor there (?), not sure where tho.

Tom Skerritt (83 yrs old!), would be nice, as would Michael Ironside (67).
