I viewed both on a professionally calibrated OLED E6.
The older master had a lot of processing applied like sharpening, so it will look "better" if you like that kind of stuff. The new master has less processing (not zero apparently) and looks more natural and film-like, which does mean softer in a lot of cases.

Just watched this again, BD then 4K. I never get tired of watching this movie. They both looked great. I know we get caught up in the format and pq/AQ and all, but when all is said and done, it's about the quality of the movie itself. If 4K never came around, I'd be quite happy with the blu disc.
On another note, am I the only one here that wanted Munny to unload on Beauchamp? yeah I know that's harsh but I found him to be super annoying.

The daytime shots were gorgeous. Some of the interior and night scenes were super dark, though I'm not sure if that's the source or the transfer.

And still nowhere to be found in stores. Who was the genius who approved spending money on a remaster only to not have it sold in stores....

I agree with your opinion of this disc, so it is probably the source.

Just so things don't get out of hand, I am only gonna buy new releases from now on. I have just sold Unforgiven, Goodfellas and I Am Legend.

Its a Premium format, so only premium discs for me. All others will look okay upscaled from a BD.

Also Atmos/DTS:X audio is a must.

Catalog movies in a store isn't something you should ever expect anymore. Also, I bought mine at Best Buy.

Best Buy still has a spot for it on the 4K wall but Warners is just being very slow to restock.

Was happy to snag mine with the RZ certs but I otherwise would've waited. The disc is pretty much perfect to my eyes though (aside from those weird fleeting Force fields), so it's hard to complain.

A couple showed up at my nearest Best Buy.

I wonder if Walmart is going to ramp up discounts for 'ship to store'. We need Target, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Walmart, and anywhere in between to compete for our UHD spending as catalog titles start rolling out.

I'm selling my Unforgiven 4k also, as soon as I find that thread here for that.

I don't seem to have a problem finding any other catalog title newly released in store.

Maybe its just the area I live in, but my local Best Buy always has a couple of these on the shelf, and I go in there 1-2 times a week.

My Best Buy carries tons of stuff, but catalog movies like this are very hit and miss. UHD has put some on the shelves, but it's not a reliable thing. They didn't have the Apes movies day one, for example. It's a mileage may vary thing, the vast majority of their sales are new release movies. It's just a reality of the market and has been this way for years, not sure why some express surprise.

Also, as said before, I got my copy at Best Buy. Yours likely just sold out because they didn't order many, for obvious reasons.

I think the 4K version can look a bit soft in places but overall it's the better transfer because of the colours. The Bluray struggles when it comes to the indoor scenes as its so dark plus the skin tones look more natural on the 4K.
