Gpu=graphics processing unit Cpu=central processing unit
So basically the gpu is dedicated to rendering graphics and cpu handles the programs and codes.A console or computer will have a cpu and a graphics card as the gpu So the cell can do double duty as both meaning the ps3 can sqeeze extra power out of the cell for graphics.
