Just a film tech tidbit: Images shot on color negative film (most movies) have more grain in the shadows than in the bright parts. (Images shot on silver b/w negative film are just the opposite)

I didn't know that but it makes perfect sense from my experience.

Default Difference in Blu-ray PQ question...

i have just got my panny 50" 1080p plasma fitted and was watching some blu ray through my ps3. i was watchin ghost rider and all the way through the film was gobsmacked at the quality in picture ....pure as an angels fart!

but then i got alien v predator and in some scenes it was really grainy. sort of moving specks in the air. this horrified me as my wife suddenly reminded me i have just spent £4500 on this set up and it looks dodgy in some parts.

my question being do some older films transfer to blu ray less in quality than modern produced films?

also. i have sky hd and the picture on normal tv is not so good. again seems a little fuzzy. im sat about 2 metres away from screen...am i too close? would a higher spec aerial into the tv give me a better pic than sky for corrie and eastenders (my wife wants to ask that 1)? am i being spoilt by hd tv from sky and when we look at normal tv it seems poo!!! by comparison.

does any1 know if sky plan to increase the channels available to hd in line with their price increase in september???????

ps im connected with hdmi from ps3 and from sky to tv.....

come on you red men for 2007-08

Well my friend to answer your question some look terrible in the dark scenes in the movie. But in some movies this is the desired look of the film by the director. Other wise you may just wanna read the reviews of the Blu-ray film u desire before purchasing it. It will save u time and money. And your wife criticizing your spending habits on electronics. lol

well as far as the movie PQ everything goes back and forth. For example both POTC movies look amazing!
But pop GI JANE in and you will see a big difference. Some movies are just older so the PQ will be better then DVD but compared to the new movies like transformers when it comes out will look amazing on bluray just because of the new technology etc.
Also some movies are just shot grainy, like 300 will look good but i think it will be a bit grainy because of the way the movie was shot.

One of the many benefits of Blu-ray sharing.

What you saw in AvP is probably just film grain. Film grain can be pretty heavy at times, depending on the equipment used to film the movie, or even director's preference (some directors like the grainy look, like Spielberg). So like others have said, just check out the reviews before you decide to buy something. I'd highly recommend that you check out either of the Pirates of the Carribean movies - those came out really well.

I'll agree that CR was missing several things that make something Bond

1- I never wanted to BE James Bond. JB is all about the male empowerment fantasy, and that was never here

2- Not caring about shaken or stirred? Blasphemy!

3- No Q

Bond needs to have that edge of goofy outrageousness. WHile CR was a great action piece, it never felt like Bond

Dalton is the closest to the books, he just got bad scripts.
