I found another out-of-the-way neo-noir for the OP. It's titled The Perfect Sleep (2009) and has only received a blu-ray release in Germany.

Trailer (which apes the theme from The Third Man):

I am trying to find that one shipped to the US. Apparently AMZ DE is no longer selling it or at least it is only available from the marketplace right now.

They Live by Night - This was one of the movies I picked up by Criterion this past week and while it was a good movie, it wasn't flawless. The acting for the main girl was pretty atrocious as she kept looking into the camera, not giving enough emotion during some scenes while being overly dramatic in others to the point that it felt forced. There were a lot of fantastic camera shots and great lightning, but the movie probably should have been a good 10-15 minutes shorter than it was. Still, I did enjoy it as the dude from The Rope was excellent and it was interesting to see what is apparentely the first dumb children lovers getaway movie. Well okay, the main guy was 23, but they were still pretty much kids when it came to their emotions. I mean they got married like 2 days after they met each other. Anyway, I give it a 7/10.

New Melville box set will give us most of JPM's Noirs on Blu Ray, some for the first time. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=294278 There's also a 12 disc French box set though no idea if it's English friendly?

The Nice Guys is currently going for $7.00.

How does this one stack up against Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? Enough noir here to be intrigued?

I probably should rewatch KKBB at some point as I liked it, but I don't own it. I own The Nice Guys and it was my second favorite movie of 2016.

I love Shane Black but I could not get into Kiss Kiss Bang Bang at all. I love The Nice Guys though. It just gets better and better with each viewing.

I own KKBB on DVD, but I wasn't able to get into it the last time I watched it in like 2007 or so. I remember thinking that the "comedy" felt a bit forced. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of Robert Downey Jr.

The "6% chance/definition of idiot" scene is one of the funniest things I've ever seen and total rewind quality.

I haven't watched it in a while but Downey and Kilmer worked pretty well together.

I went and ordered The Nice Guys...at that price, I'm pretty stoked.

Yeah the comedy felt really forced for me as well and threw things off and that was one of the issues I had with it. I thought the cinematography was incredible that looked fantastic on the blu though. I'm a big Robert Downey Jr. fan but this one just didn't do it for me unfortunately. I really wanted to like it too

This one should make a lot of people happy. Warner Archive has officially announced the gritty neo-noir Night Moves (1975) starring Gene Hackman, and directed by Arthur Penn.

Joining Hackman and Penn are two actors just starting out on the road to stardom: James Woods and Melanie Griffith. The stars come out – and so does the excitement – when the Night Moves
