Once again, am I only one who thinks the picture from this looks better in SDR than it does in HDR? I've tried every possible setting but nothing I do seems to make any difference. I had the same problem last year with the Samsung 4K player and now with this and it's driving me crazy! At least the Sony gives you the option of turning off the HDR whereas the Samsung didn't and when I do turn it off and let the 4K disc play in SDR, the picture is so much brighter, colorful, and more dynamic than it looks in HDR. The HDMI settings on all the inputs on my Sony XBR55X930D 4K TV are all set on Enhanced so I know it's not the TV causing the problem. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

Playing Pacific Rim on an average HDR performer set like my new Samsung is not the same than playing let's say Terminator Genisys that has great color, nice definition, clean picture, plenty of dark scenes with good low level detail but not many steroid-bright scenes that may look burned on an average HDR performer. I personally either with a great or average performer HDR set I don't like very agressive use of HDR with oversaturated colors and overblown highlights that make the movie look like a Christmas tree. |

Actually I think I might have figured it out finally, or rather someone else online figured it out for me. Apparently he was having the same problem but with his PS4. He said he changed the input setting on his TV "Picture and Display" from Full to Auto and it solved the problem. I just did the exact same thing and now the picture with HDR is absolutely gorgeous!!

You asked a question and I answered it as simply as I could. I have not seen a single person say the SDR mode looks better on their HDR sets. Thanks for calling me names, though. And wouldn't you know, you didn't have your settings right! |

Sorry, but you WERE being rude. As it turns out, I wasn't the only one who was experiencing the same problem. After a Google search I found out that there are tons of others having problems with it. That's when I discovered the article by this guy who told about how he managed to fix his. I never said that I was an expert who knew everything and as far as I knew, I DID have all the settings set correctly. It never ever occurred to me to switch from Full to Auto as anyone would expect that Full meant best picture quality so once again, there's no need to be sarcastic about it. I thought I had all the settings set correctly but I was wrong. I'm not perfect. Instead of saying "Yes you are" which in my mind is just plain rude, you could have been a lot more friendly and just said something like "Sorry, I just don't know why you are having this problem", or nothing at all. I thought we were all here to help each other, not to make rude comments or to make the other person feel like some kind of idiot.

Well I've got an interesting problem. My X800 no longer reads 4k discs. It reads DVD and BD just find, but every time I put a UHD in it says the disc cannot be read, check for scratches, disc "might not be finalized." Anyone ever have this problem?
P.S. You might remember I had a frame skipping issue months ago but that ended up being a TV firmware update thing and isn't related. |
