If you want to know more about SNDN part 2, check out this podcast with Robert Brian Wilson from part 1 and Eric Freeman from part 2, who has long been away from Hollywood. There is a lot of great info and some fun stories.

One thing about SNDN2: the legend--long pushed by The AV Club--that it's mostly footage from the previous film is simply NOT TRUE.

Yes, the kills and other key scenes are rehashed, and most of the story is told in flashback, but that flashback is mostly new scenes. And some of those scenes--little Ricky's encounter with the slo-mo nuns, the aftermath of the abusive-boyfriend kill, and the theater scene, as examples--are delightful blends of mind-blowingly goofy and genuinely creepy. Even the infamous "Garbage Day!" scene has its moments of greatness.

I love the first one for the Grandpa scene and everything after the snowman decapitation ("RAAAAAAA!!"); I love the second one for...everything that isn't footage from the first one. Even the atrocious acting. Even the preposterous ramped car crash. Even the physically impossible umbrella kill. It's the best of the franchise, as low as that bar may be.

I would rank them:

1 - Silent Night, Deadly Night
2 - Black Christmas
3 - Christmas Evil

The poster alone for SNDN should be enough to draw most people in - such an iconic image. I vividly remember nervously admiring the big box VHS at my local video store as a kid. I actually credit this title as helping to spark my lifelong love of horror movies.

I received all three steelbook/poster matching boxes. All three had the poster tubes inside. 2/3 had the steelbooks inside the larger box. Baffled!

Nothing compares to Black Christmas (1974) in terms of Christmas horror, but I'm looking forward to giving this one a spin, along with the (hopefully) remastered Silent Night, Deadly Night.
Don't listen to the negative comments about it, it's a much better made & more intelligent movie than SNDN (& i like SNDN). The only reason i can tell that some hate it is because it's not a basic run of the mill popcorn slasher movie with loads of kills.

Christmas Evil is awesome. It's got a lot cooking under the surface and to call it simply a slasher would be missing the bigger picture...although, it's definitely horror.

There are some Christmas-themed horror films which get years off because, quite frankly, they aren't that great for every-year viewings (like Don't Open Till Christmas for example), but Christmas Evil seems to get played every year.

You mean Santa's Slay? I remember seeing it when it came out & not liking it much at all. Havent seen it since then though so my opinion may change if I see it again.

Isn't it still with Lionsgate?

If so, its the perfect candidate for a Vestron December release.

Silent Night Deadly Night is a lot more entertaining than Christmas Evil. They both revolve around the killer as a character, and the victims are completely secondary/almost irrelevant. Where SNDN clenches it is that there aren't huge gaps between kills once they start. Also, though I know the character in CE is supposed to be disturbed, he is also extremely grating after a while. I like both, but there is nothing really fun about CE, while SNDN has some really fun slasherific sequences (the Miss Quigley scene for one!).

Black Christmas is of course the best, and one of my all time favorites in general.

Exclusive Interview With SCREAM FACTORY Straight From SDCC 2017 On Their 10 Recently Announced Titles!

http://www.blumhouse.com/2017/07/25/...ounced-titles/

In regards to what's going on with Hell Night:

Quote:
BH.com: A lot of people were expecting you to announce HELL NIGHT at Comic-Con because I believe the Barnes & Nobles website accidentally had a premature listing for it as one of your upcoming Blu-Ray releases. But it wasn’t announced and you briefly addressed why on the Scream Factory page. Do you want to clarify here why it wasn’t one of the Comic-Con announcements, and is it still a potential future title?

JN: I had this question directly asked at Comic-Con, so yes, I can address this again. HELL NIGHT is a title that yes, we are currently working on. It is with an independent licensor. Unfortunately, a retailer linked our pre-order links that were not supposed to go out. They did. We got caught a little off guard, because we were still in talks on how to put this together. And that’s still happening, but we weren’t at a place last Friday where we were able to make a formal announcement, which is why we also communicated that on our social media channels earlier in the week, just so that people weren’t expecting that to be a title that was going to be announced. We think the world of HELL NIGHT. We want to do it right. But we don’t want to announce something until we can be 100 percent sure that we can do it right. There are other titles that we also have lined up for 2018, and some of them are pretty darned big, but again, we weren’t in a place where we could announce them last Friday. You need to cross the T’s and dot the I’s, and that’s what we still have to do with HELL NIGHT.

4K restoration for Misery!

I had no idea American Gothic was with MGM. Interesting to see that they did a trade with another label - I wonder who that was, and what they gave away?

Promising tease when discussing Eye of the Cat, and the obscure nature of titles like this:

Quote:
We hope they sell, so we can put out more titles like this, and we do have more coming like this that we haven’t announced yet for 2018.

I'm just guessing, but I feel like they want to make it CE and need to get extras lined up. Obviously they have it and plan on releasing it ASAP.

I think they're either trying to locate usable film elements or they're trying to get Linda Blair involved with the release.

The "some of them are pretty darned big" makes me feel like a Paramount deal could indeed be in the works. Friday and Nightmare series are surely the biggest. Won't get my hopes up though!

lol, the Paramount speculation begins again. Honestly, we'll see 1408, Hannibal, and everything else before that, I think.

I found this passage about American Gothic particularly interesting...

Quote:
Cliff MacMillan: It was always with MGM. Originally, on VHS, it was a Vidmark release, which would lead you to think it’s a Lionsgate title, but MGM had it, and actually we lost it to another label. We ended up doing a trade with another label to get the title, so it worked out great for us.
I wonder what the title was that they traded away to get American Gothic? And what label did they make the trade with? Hmmm.
