I ordered from DDDhouse. normally I wait about 7-9 days but my last 3 orders took more than 2 weeks to arrive. maybe the post officeis backed up.

I posted this on the asian sub forum and Ill post it here too.

OK folks got a lil good news and a lil bad news. Good news: English subtitles are present and are decent. PQ seems to best the US Blu (atleast judging by the screens on this site and http://www.caps-a-holic.com).

The bad: its the French cut! Yes u read right. French text, French rap, English end credits. This is the same cut found on the Fox version. runtime: 1:45:06 and not 110 min like the back of the box.

Sigh. Box set arrived for review, and Magnet's Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior Blu-ray is the same crappy transfer and non-original music track as 20th Century Fox's. What a waste.

Will pick up the trilogy when it hits $19.99, Ong Bak is one of the most unintentional comedies ever

Since this is another bust, anyone know what the best NTSC DVD or Blu-ray is with the original soundtrack and English subs?

There is no NTSC DVD that I am aware of with English subtitles for the original version due to licensing restrictions. I also can not confirm if the Thai Blu-ray is the original version as Happy Home Entertainment lists it with a 103min run time. However, this does not have English subtitles... so that one is out anyway for most people.

Boomerang Thailand has the Thai Blu-ray for 299 Baht or about $10 US. I don't know if I want to risk it and have my cousins bring a copy back when they return to the US.

No subs either? I just saw this at Wal-Mart for $19 and almost bought it, but I remembered that the original was a bad disc so I wanted to research first. I already have Ong Bak 2 but neither the original or 3rd on DVD or blu-ray, so I am still kind of tempted to buy it anyway since I really like the movies (the first especially). Is it really that bad? Also it appears the other BD of the original is OOP and goes for more than the trilogy anyway?

I realize Ong Bak 2 has its own board, but it's barely received any traffic

Can any expert on the movie(s) tell me the name of the third dude that Jaa had to fight in that contest to win the respect of the village? The big, crazed wrestler/warrior guy covered in piercings and tattoos.

Pretty decent scrap, IMO.

Someone on another forum I vist picked it up for 9.99$ at Wal-Mart this week. I'm curious to know if Ong-Bak 1 has a good transfer somewhere, it's the only one worth the re-watch IMO.

just ordered the korean blu from nova media. judging by the inclusion of a director commentary, this should be the full uncut version. i hope it is cause my bootleg dvd that i got from ebay just turned 12. thats over 100 in dvd years.

It looked like there were no English subtitles on this disc from the listing. Which is pretty disappointing if true

ya i can confirm there are no english subs on this release. of course they tease us by having all english menus and rap music playing blaring throughout. which is a damn shame too because it is a port of the recent german release which is the fully restored asian version and looks 100 times better than the existing blu rays. a damn shame really.

How is the new German BD? I heard that the additional scenes are only included in a bad quality? Also, is the full film in Thai or in German? I am asking because Amazon.de lists German as the only language track.

judging by the korean disc, it looks like a brand new high quality scan of the full uncut thai version. only thai audio on this release but the german disc should have dubbing.

Damn that sucks. Was just about to order this, thankfully I checked the forums first. Thanks for the heads up!

Can anyone please summarize the "best" versions to get of all 3 films as far as being uncut, and best A/V quality possible? Even better if you can recommend where to grab them.

English subs would be ideal, but I rip all of my movies to home media server and would be completely ok with adding subtitles as long as they exist somewhere (if you can point me to them that would also be greatly appreciated).

I realize the information largely exists in this thread and don't mean to seem lazy, but I get somewhat overwhelmed by the variations and possibilities and would appreciate the assistance.

Thank you in advance.

I think the best versions are (and someone may correct me):
- Ong Bak 1: Korean or German releases (have the uncut Thai version with the best picture quality, but only Korean/German subs)
- Ong Bak 2: US release
- Ong Bak 3: US release
