I'm expecting a terrifying visual and atmospheric fest that will scare the crap out of me.
The original is unwatchable muck and always was.

It is dreadful!

Back to the jump scare talk, the scene in the original where Georgie winks when Bill is looking at the book made me jump since it was out nowhere. Most horror movies these days spend so much time building up to the scare.

In this new version (part 1) or in the next one (part 2), I hope we can fine out a little bit more about this "IT" creature. Like what the hell it is and where did it come from.

The original book came out 31 years ago and has all of the answers you need. It actually does somewhat explain what It is, but yes I do hope they address that in the new movie(s).

I really wish people would stop calling this a remake. It has nothing to do with the TV movie. I watched that when it came on TV and, while I enjoyed it, that was mainly due to my love of the book. It really was pretty bad, looking back at it.

This is an adaptation of the book, and looks light years better than the TV movie. Of course, just my opinion.

I'll be going into this pretty blind as I've never read the King novel or seen the 1990 mini-series but I can't imagine a nearly 30-year-old network offering besting an R-rated big-screen attempt.

Then again, the 1979 Salem's Lot completely buries the 2004 version, even with elaborate special-effects and more relaxed restrictions on horror and violence.

As long as the TV movie adaptation have been made, I still haven't seen "It".

It doesn't matter if the movie looks light years better... What matters is can Skarsgard top Curry's performance as Pennywise.

I saw it when I was a teen but I am tempted to pick it up on Bluray as a double feature with the new film. I remember it (no pun intended) being quite good but that may change when I watch it as a adult.

Yeah, I think I will give it another go. Might be interesting watching both on the same weekend. Looking forward to the new one, love the book. (Although parts of that don't have a chance of being filmed)

I don't think much about this new one and no one can match Tim Curry's performance.

It's reputation comes from people having seen this when they were impressionable kids and it's purely down to nostalgia. Apart from Tim Curry "It" is indeed pretty poor. I find that people who were kids in the 80s and 90s kling on to their childhood impressions far more than earlier generations. This also explains why The Goonies, a film every adult who was forced to see it at the time found totally unbearable, apparently now is a classic.

That's what I was getting at with my previous post. Sometimes our memories are clouded by one or two scary scenes that mask a turkey of a film.

No it doesn't. The overall quality of the movie is more important. Many people won't give the new Pennywise a fair shake because they've already made up their mind that no one can match Curry's performance and it's silly.

Maybe he won't, but I'm at least willing to give him a chance rather than letting nostalgia cloud my judgment.
