I don't know. Horror is my favorite genre and I love all kinds of horror films with the 70s and 80s being my favorite decades for the genre and I really enjoyed The Babadook. It wasn't perfect but it was pretty solid IMO. I'm almost 40 too.

That's not to say someone is right or wrong saying it's good or bad. After all it's all opinion anyway. If I didn't hate the mother and son characters I wouldn't have hated the film as much as I do. But then again I like Chuck Norris movies so what the hell do I know
The Babadook" is a well-made film, but there's nothing interesting about it IMO. The hype on the internet hurt it because people were expecting a transcendent horror film. Internet hype is the worst. There are a lot of people who write about film and who do podcasts who haven't seen enough films. There are a ton of posters on this board who know way, way more than most people who cover film professionally. There are so many 20-somethings, and I'm not an old dude (30), who write about films who have no idea what the f**k they're talking about and clearly haven't seen enough to speak with any credibility. They're these dipshits who have seen a few "edgy" films and think they know what they're talking about. I respect the opinions of good posters on this board (i.e. TripleHBK, MassiveMovieBuff), who know their stuff, but respectfully disagree on this particular film.

Yeah. The Babadook and It Follows were both great. I watch a shitload of horror movies and I love it when they subvert my expectations.

I don't think it's a poorly made film. I think the characters are annoying and I hated watching them. There have been some truly great horror films that are mashing genres and that's really what makes a great film. When I look at the great films over the last 50 years they all blend genres. The horror genre as of late really sticks out these days as the only one that is really pushing boundaries. Again it comes back to expectations.

That's unfortunate. Amityville curse never got a DVD release and 1992, New generation and Dollhouse DVDs are out of print.

It's a Turkish film so it is subtitled, so perhaps that's why folks have avoided it, but I compared much of it to what the Hellraiser film franchise should have become with the later sequels instead of what they ended up becoming. This one can be had for only $12 at Hamiliton Books.
Saw the trailer... I'm checking this one out!

Is "Death Becomes Her" the only collector's edition that doesn't have new cover art? If so, is there a reason for that?

Scream Factory had new art commissioned for Psycho II and III but Universal made them stick with the original art, I think because they are so iconic and they didn't want them messed with. To my knowledge, no one outside the company ever saw the new art. I think Death Becomes Her might have something to do with the studio's contract with its stars not allowing it, but not sure.

Yeah the Death Becomes Her commissioned art was scrapped because contractual obligations stipulated approval from one of the actresses which wasn't feasible.

They said cast members, not actresses. Which is what leads me to believe it was just Bruce Willis being a dick as he's liable to do.

I consider myself a pretty hardcore horror guy, and I rather like The Babadook while I found stuff like the Sleepaway Camp sequels to be irredeemable garbage. It's all subjective.

The first one did not. I think it had stills from the movies on the reverse.

Shout! Factory announced the next volume of Mystery Science Theater 3000, which contains Girls Town and Danger: Diabolik - two titles under Paramount. So the two are officially working together, though it doesn't really mean they'll expand it into Scream Factory yet (Shout licensed titles from Warner for the MST3K brand, but it never went beyond that).
They also said this would likely be the final new MST3K set they will be able to release, so I guess they couldn't work a deal out for the Paramount titles that Olive has.
