As for BrainDead, that's CBS and they don't even give a Blu-ray to their much more popular series. This unfortunately didn't do well even during the Summer. Imo, the choice was always between DVD and nothing, and I'm somewhat surprised that they're actually releasing it at all.
it's CBS but it's also Paramount like this though, so it'd have been nice.

Not that this Terry Brooks teen series of books was the absolute best ever (at least it was superior to Twilight and the other modern teen schlock), but MTV and the producers of the TV show really, really butchered the Elfstone novel and I doubt any Second Season will be much better. They were Shakespearean compared to what you got here. Yes, I even blame Brooks for signing off on this drivel.

It's worse than a lot of the teen soaps on the CW... the writing, the acting, and the plots are poorly executed and sometimes just bang your head against the wall stupid.

I felt sorry for John Rhys-Davies having to choke down the cheesy script.

And the big reveal that you were in a futuristic fantasy version of Planet Earth, and the U.S. specifically, was very, very subtly brought up. On this show, they hit you over the head with obvious ruins and technology that would have turned to dust eons ago.

The two networks that authors should never allow their works to be produced for is MTV and The CW. Because they're more likely to transform your work into the "teenage version of beautiful people" version of your written works.

For quite some time now, there has been interest in adapting the Dragonriders of Pern but it's been in developmental hell for the longest time. These are two networks that always finds a way to make their shows more appealing to teenagers and high school kids.

Just because you write for teens doesn't mean you need to seriously dumb things down to moronic levels with vapid pretty people who were rejects from a high school play preening for the camera (what you got with The Shannara Chronicles). I wish John Hughes was still around. He knew how to write so that teens and adults could get something out of his stories. Basically, his secret was teens talking and acting like adults.

I agree it can't come close to touching the books, but most tv/films don't. So while I wouldn't hail this as any great TV work, I am thankful that the original Shannara trilogy is getting some attention.

Incredibly enjoyed this show (as I hate fantasy shows that don't manage to go beyond the good/evil angle and always the same warrior / magician / orcs / undead characters ; even Game of Thrones is so bland, having the major characters evil is almost laughable as they are so bad at scheming and resort to violence as thier plans are lame).
Having a backstory of post apocalypse (seen only in glimpses, so cool to see a Star Trek reference) gave some nice change, as some of the creatures are degenerated by radiations. The two girls are stunning, and the acting is pretty good (honestly even better than things like Legends of tomorrow). M. Liebman's review is sad and once again I disagree with his opinion.
Bought the Blu-ray without hesitation.

Had no idea this was being released on blu-ray. I saw it at Wal-mart tonight and almost bought it. But I still have Christmas gifts to purchase so it will have to wait a few weeks until I can buy it for myself.

Can anyone who imported it confirm that the UK Studio Canal release is 1080p / 23.976 fps?

Region isn't an issue for me. I just want to be sure there's no funny conversion stuff going on.

I'm looking at the UK release vs the US release... UK is 3 discs while US is only 2.

In theory, I'm hoping that means the episodes on the UK discs got a higher bitrate than cramming them onto 2 discs with the US release.

Any details / feedback with specific info that folks can provide on the different releases would be really appreciated!

It definitely is 1080p24. The audio is also of higher quality on the UK release.

I didn't even notice that, but it makes sense. MTV got a new higher up after the 1st season ended and that's why everything got cancelled, but since this had already been renewed and probably resumed production, they didn't want to lose money. Plus, TSC is a Paramount property and Spike is changing it's name to Paramount Network in 2018.

...I'd have more faith in it sticking on MTV though. They've done surprisingly well with scifi/fantasy stuff, and even a few comedy shows. I haven't liked a single thing Spike has done, I only just barely tolerate The Mist.

Trailer looks quite nice! Looks like they are really straying from the book. It's been awhile but I don't recall Wil ever using the Sword of Shannara. Was hoping this season followed the events of Wishsong(one of my favorite books of all time!). Either way looking forward to the air date and hopefully another BD release!

The whole series has strayed heavily from the books. They're Shannara in name only with waaaaaaaaaay too many anachronisms. For one thing, Brooks only ever hinted in very subtle ways that this fantasy world was Earth of the distant future. However, since modern Millennials are seemingly too stupid to get the tiniest of clues here and there, they have easily recognizable music, buildings, and monuments (not to mention working film projectors and other mechanical devices!!) that would have long ago turned to dust.

The acting and showrunner decisions have been nothing but poor. Sure the girls are hot, but they all seem like rejects from the Jersey Shore or California surfer communities... or the CW for that matter.

As a fan I like to look at it as better than nothing. Maybe this show catches someone's eye and we get a nice film trilogy?
All I know is that about a year there was zero Shannara on tv. So this, while not epic on the scale of GoT or the Rings films, is still something.
