^ as much as I'd like to see another Indy with Ford, I'm also perfectly fine with them letting it go or rebooting it. For all its faults, the end of Crystal Skull was a perfect ending for Indy.

I just find it impossible to wrap my mind around a movie with a SEVENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Harrison Ford being able to do even a quarter of the taxing physical stuntwork a rough & tumble role like Indy requires. Dude broke his leg a few years back just filming a scene sitting in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit. The last thing I want to see is an enfeebled Indy where Ford is only required for the closeups, and we'll cut to a decades-younger stuntman anytime he has to punch someone, swing on his whip or run and jump around (or maybe an all-CG stuntman). In Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, he was in impressive shape for a man in his mid-60's, and pulled off the physical demands of the role well, but a decade later, it's just going to be sad. Yeah, I know that Skull disappointed many, but it really was the last time that Ford playing the role was even remotely possible.

It's not like his leg broke while he was just sitting in the pilot's chair lol, a hydraulic powered door or something literally smashed into his leg and broke it. The fact that he was back in a matter of weeks (oh, and he survived a friggin plane crash) is a testament to how great a shape he's in. As long as they use stunt doubles with some face replacement rather than full-on CGI doubles, so everything looks relatively real and believable, Ford can easily do another one.

But like I said earlier, if he doesn't and they decide to just reboot it, I'm OK with that too.

Even more than Ford's advanced age is the fact that Steven Spielberg is so clearly disinterested in "fun" movies anymore. Jurassic Park was the last time he seemed fully engaged by one of his summer blockbuster popcorn adventure movies. The Lost World was phoned-in, Crystal Skull felt claustrophobic and set-bound (no globetrotting location footage in that one...all greenscreen crap ), The BFG was pleasant but certainly no E.T., and Ready Player One seems like an aging filmmaker just trying to stay "relevant"...by making a movie crammed with references to things he made or produced in the 80's. I think Spielberg is still a great filmmaker, but the days when he had that wide-eyed, childlike wonder seem so long ago now. He can make great adult dramas like Bridge Of Spies or Munich or War Horse, but he's past his prime as a creator of terrific white-knuckle thrill rides.

Being an animated movie, it's kind of its own beast. I think it was just Spielberg playing around with a new technology that freed up his inner kid again.

Just find the next person you want to play young Indiana Jones and let Harrison Ford hand it off to him by being in the first movie and telling a story about when he was young. Give Ford a few great scenes to send him off in style and also you'll have a new young Indiana Jones for future movies. I know it sounds similar to The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, but I think it would be a good way to go now.

Curious how they will explain Mutt's absence. I actually liked him, and thought Harrison and Shia had good chemistry. But in recent years, with Shia's crazy mind-boggling antics, I'd been questioning his possible involvement in a fifth film. I thought maybe he'd have a small presence (perhaps he's disappeared and turns up at the end or something) but I didn't quite expect them to leave him out entirely.

As for the future, I think the best thing to do would be a series of prequels with a young Indiana in the 1920s. Could even let us see his initial meetings with Marion and Abner, and also see how his rivalry with Belloq started. And it wouldn't conflict with Young Indiana Jones, which is canon, as chronologically the last stories took place in 1920 when Indy was only 21. That would be better than simply scrapping everything and really starting over again, which it doesn't sound like they're doing based on Iger's comments.

yes, he's old but at least get your facts straight

as much as we want to report that Ford sustained his injury while performing some elaborate, death-defying stunt as the cameras were rolling on Episode VII, the simple, if mundane truth is that a hydraulic door – part of the practical Millennium Falcon set constructed for the film – malfunctioned and fell down, hitting Ford and causing him to break his leg. Indeed, it’s possible that the initial report came in even before the severity of the actor’s injury had been determined.

They can leave them to some sidekick or take a different route altogether relying more on suspense than action for example.

Last Crusade's was perfect, but KotCS exists. And given that, Indy and Marion getting married and walking off together is still a perfectly fine ending for Ford.

And Tintin rules. One of the best CBMs ever made, although I get that it probably doesn't do anything for people who never read the comics.

TINTIN is one of the best alternatives for Indiana Jones ever made, imo.
