Not sure exactly what you're asking, but here's everything HDMI 2.1 offers: http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_1/

As you said in a previous post “then a new One Connect Box will take care of that, in which case we'll have the ability to watch HDR10+ discs”. I am asking about video content on 4K disks. You can only view HDR10 or Dolby Vision and probably next year HDR10+. So that’s why my original question of why are you willing to pay $200 or more for HDR10+.

I'd be paying for a full HDMI 2.1 upgrade, not just for HDR10+...

What HDR format content do you expect to watch on it? I promise if you mention DV you will not be struck by lightning.

The HDR formats supported by my TV.

Again, there's much more to HDMI 2.1 than support for an additional HDR format. eARC and game mode VRR in particular.

Sony is a companymwell known for not liking to pay royalty fees, remember 20+ years ago when everybody were releasing THX A/V receivers? Not Sony...
I'm quite sure the next company to jump on the HDR10+ wagon will be Sony.

Unlikely, their home video production chain is geared to DV and their high-end sets advertise it - and it's not available on their rival Samsung's sets. Of all the major home video labels *only* Fox is committed to HDR10+ and they aren't exactly flooding the market with UHD discs. Only Warner & Sony have been strong with the catalog titles.

As for THX - it's certification requirement on receivers were extremely stringent and Sony simply weren't up to snuff. Even their ES line.

I understand what he's saying, that having competing 'luxury' formats rather than one basic format/one luxury format means that the 'luxury' becomes the standard that people expect, but at the same time so much of what HDR does is still up in the air anyway, as Peter attested to above, so adding just a lil' bit more consumer confusion is par for the course. And as displays get better and better then their handling of static HDR10 itself will only improve.
I don't get the format war fear either, since consumers will always have HDR 10 to fall back on no matter their hardware. Even sites pushing Dolby Vision hard agree HDR 10 on disc looks better than DV through a stream (see their new Blade Runner DV stream review). However I do think there is real danger for consumer confusion, which leads to frustration and less purchases/support. It's par for the course, sure, but it can lead to delayed support. I know I waited to jump on the HD movie train until the winner was decided, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if people were waiting for HDR to settle down as well.

Those days are long gone. Samsung realized it's easier to just sell you a new TV. Samsung was also sued this past year for that marketing gimmick from a 2012 TV. No more upgrades.

Sony is a member of the UHD Alliance. But Sony TV are not UHD Premium-certified.

THX and UHD Premium are not technologies. They are quality certifications.
Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby Vision or HDR10 Plus are technologies.

Usually, device makers pass along technology royalty costs to the consumer.

The Sony Z9D will get a free Dolby Vision upgrade soon: The royalty cost to add Dolby Vision ranges from less than $3 per TV to lower than $2 per TV!

I think so too, along with LG which claimed supporting all HDR formats. Others will (have to) follow.
Universal HDR TV is a big plus: consumers can play any content they want.

Adding a HDR format into a HDR TV is just adding a piece of software, a useful one.

Furthermore, nowadays, there are a lot of useless software or bloatware on modern TV.

What's all the fuss about adding software?

His requirement: "If Samsung can give me a confirmation its TVs support HLG I will update the diagram accordingly."

Yes. See DanBa's reply. The owner of the diagram refuses to fix it without a high level of proof (of his choosing). It's disappointing given that we can very clearly show HLG for many months now, but, it is his diagram and his choice to do this.

Why would anyone want to compare UHD disc to Dolby Vision streaming without expecting UHD disc to be the clear winner??

Geoff, you should know by now that my ‘ponder for the thinkers’ posts involve hints before official public announcements.
Sony officially launched the new 6k Venice full frame CineAlta camera: http://www.sony.com/venice

And in relation to HDR, it says it has 15+stops of dynamic range and can capture a color space greater than Rec.2020.

I don't know where these rumors about Samsung refusing to ever offer new OCB came from, but they appear to be false, as they are considering it as backup plan.

Oppo also supports HLG since their DV update. Documented in the Oppo 203 thread. Is some other confirmation needed for the diagram owner?

So I'm told but it seems impossibe to find an official statement about that.

Are they afraid of talking about HLG for fear of distracting from the message about HDR10+, or creating confusion?

They probably don't consider it important enough yet to make an official announcement. Several officials said last year that they would add it via firmware update. Nothing more was heard until several owners tested HLG videos and discovered that they triggered HDR on their TVs. Samsung doesn't release useful firmware update notes.
