Bestbuy wont price match currently because Walmart has it listed as a preorder still.
They cant price match until it becomes available.
Just got off of the phone with them..........
May return mine to get the cheaper price.

Thanks for the info! Wonder why it's still a preorder at WM.

Anybody pick it up and got any thoughts on PQ?

I know that the HDR will probably help the first movie a lot, since most of it is bathed in shadows...

Mostly wondering if it's a solid upgrade to the 2nd and 3rd ones.

I'll gladly let you know.....if I can actually get my copy. I ordered it this morning for in-store pickup. Here it is 4 hours later and it's still not ready for me to go get it. And now the store is showing it's out of stock(it was in stock when I ordered it). They better actually have a copy available for me. I've had it up to here with Wal-Mart and VUDU and trying to order movies from them.

Picked this up after work today. Really good price on 3 movies. Considering each one is about $8-$10 currently on blu ray, getting the UHD versions as well for only a few dollars more is a steal.

Yes, includes digital HD or iTunes codes for all three movies. I couldn't pass up the Walmart price, almost half of what Best Buy was charging. Might watch the second movie tonight and report back, not sure...

I got it pricematched through Bestbuy.com just now so I'm a little closer to being an elite member again next year. Thanks for the heads up about Walmart.com

Any clue if the European release will also come in a single case?

20 minutes into the first Purge and so far it’s looking good! Nice detail and colors are fantastic , not too showy but nicely lush during the pre-Purge scenes. I wish I could articulate more but so far so good.

Thanks for the info-great to hear so far! It's been awhile since I have seen the first one. Does it look quite a bit better than the blu-ray?

Thanks

Skimming through it, it’s a bit darker but the overall picture is much smoother. Color wise it’s richer. A-B-ing with the Bluray, it’s a minor upgrade in terms of resolution but I think the presentation overall is much more enjoyable with the 4K. Dark scenes are DARK but without sacrificing detail.

If you get a chance would you be able to A/B the scene where they have a family talk directly after the power is cut? It starts right after the monitors come back on and light the room. When I compared them I thought Lena's face looked more natural in the 1080p version. Specifically it looked like there was more detail and a more natural color to her lips.

Overall I agree. The first film is a very minor upgrade in terms of resolution. for me, the pre-Purge scenes were basically the same in terms of color and detail. The two exceptions being Lena's lipstick and the flowers Ethan brings her, both of which are given an HDR-makeover. Other than that the overall difference seemed to be improved contrast and a brighter image, giving it a slight "3D-pop".

The home invasion is at least 20% consumer-grade footage and those shots are a not much of an improvement. They may be slightly sharper and the digital noise is handled slightly better (maybe) but overall I didn't really notice a difference. For the shots that used the pro cameras there was a more noticeable bump in PQ. The UHD handles the dark scenes a lot better than the 1080p. It was easier to follow the action in many of the scenes. One shot that stood out was a brief shot of the pool table in darkness near the beginning of the invasion. On the blu, the area around the table is so dark it almost seems like the table has a spotlight on it and the balls are over saturated and have a pop to them. The UHD is much more natural. It's much easier to see the area around the table and it no longer looks like it's under a spotlight. The balls have less pop to them but they look much more natural and, to me, more accurate and better.

The only other issue except for the scene I mentioned in the first paragraph is that there seems to be a slight blue tint on the UHD that isn't there on the blu. I noticed when the man they let in first goes into the hiding spot. There are a few close ups of him and those feature a blue push that I just don't see on the blu ray. It's subtle and it didn't effect my enjoyment of he presentation, but I noticed it when I was comparing the scenes.

I A-B'd a little bit of the first 2 movies last night and it's a marginal upgrade from what I saw. The HDR gives it a little boost, but I would not recommend this set unless you're a big fan or you can get it for the price Wal-Mart is asking(13 bucks including tax per title ain't bad at all).

Fan of the first film, have yet to see 2 and 3 (I know shocker lol).

I do not own any of them on blu ray or digital. So when they announced the 4k trilogy decided to hold out till the 4k until I realized I can snag the UK blu ray trilogy for $16. But I haven't been able to find any info if its region free anywhere.

What do you guys think? Is the Walmart Price worth $13.33 for each film in 4k? or is 1080P good enough cause if so ill just do the UK trilogy.

Walmart has the 3 blu ray box set for $18 and the 4k box set for $36, quite awesome but if the quality upgrade really is that minimal ill just get the blu ray. Im a little tempted at the prospect of getting 4K just for $20 more than the blu ray box set but yeah let me know what you think guys hehe

Thanks so much for your early reviews! I have been buying a bunch (well too much lately) after just upgrading to 4k. I need to settle down and just buy things that I don't have OR that are significant upgrades. Sounds like this set is a pretty minor upgrade coming from what I have (2 and 3 on blu).

Thanks again!

Since most of the movies take place at night, if you’re a fan of the movies and want good picture, I’d say buy the set. Like Littleprince mentions, the UHD handles the darker scenes better. Since I don’t have an Atmos/DTS:X setup yet, I can’t comment on the audio but that’s another potential upgrade area to consider.
