This movie was fantastic. For me the horror of it was that the imagery looked like something out of your nightmares and it never let up. There's typical scary which is boo scary which yes it had some, but then there is an attempt to generate real terror and chills to the bone which this movie did as well through disturbing and horrific imagery. I'm a horror fan so I've seen way more than my fair share, but this movie gave me true feelings of dread and actual fear of what's to come next. To me that's different than just pulse jumping scare tactics. I'm no scaredy cat or a wuss, but I quaked in my seat numerous times and felt fearful unease throughout so bravo to the filmmakers and cast. Not to mention the well drawn characters, the heart, the score, Skarsgard as Pennywise nailed it. I had no complaints whatsoever. This movie was a horror EVENT which it's no wonder it's making so much bank. It delivered so much in entertainment value and quality which is what's missing in alot of films these days.

It was like a black acid by the look of things. Tbh, it's a bit like how Freddy Kruger operates with kids falling asleep and then manipulating their dreams but with Pennywise, he can twist reality to his own whim based on creating fear in people.

There is one thing I want to discuss:

[Show spoiler]The scene in Bev's home bathroom where she and the room gets covered in blood. The kids all clear it up and it's pretty clear that it is actual caked on blood matter and that her dad even seems to create footprints and whatnot in the blood. I'm still unsure of why he couldn't see it. I'm fairly sure adults can be killed by Pennywise too and are affected by him the same way as the kids. So it just made me wonder why he couldn't see the blood is all. Seems like one of the logic fails in the movie tbh.

Because Derry is Pennywise. The adults are, in some way or another, corrupted by the evil of the town. It's not so much that they're oblivious to what's going on. They just choose to ignore it.

Anyway, there are multiple instances in the novel, mini-series and film in which Pennywise does something which is visible only to the individual that he's targeting. He wants to play up the fear and makes his victims feel helpless and isolated.

Well, Pennywise is also a master manipulator on top of being an illusionist.
[Show spoiler]He also made that bully kill his own father.
He does have the power to influence people's perception.

This is gonna make probably closer to 400 million in the states, and like 600 million worldwide by the time it's done.

Very true... and on a 35 million budget no less. We still have Chapter 2 that's gonna kill it as well when it gets made.

That scene where the father doesn't notice the blood kinda erks me.. Bev was damn lucky the father didn't treat her like she was all crazy and send her off to a mental hospital. As for that one scene where she is in the tub, and she looks over she sees a drop of blood on the floor. What does that mean? She still fears her period?

They never saw the blood, Not even in the mini series.

In the book he beats her for screaming. She comes up with the lie that she saw a spider and he says "well why didn't you say so much earlier." And leaves. The mini-series does that as well, and does it a little better than the film to be fair.

It was the same in the book, too. Only the kids could see the blood.

Wow just saw it. Pretty intense and moved at a good clip for its length. Sure it had some jump scares but it also had real moments of terror: like Bevs dad. Pennywise seemed a bit hyper kinetic to me. I would have liked some slower movement and speech. Fun ass movie and im somewhat jaded these days.

It isn't so much she fears her period, but what her period symbolizes, change from adolescence into adulthood. Puberty is a frightful event for kids, your body goes through radical changes, development of facial and body hair, voice changes pitch, and girls begin to menstruate. For Beverly, now that she becomes more woman like, It is why her hair strands attack her through the drain. The hair represents her father's disgusting behavior. She fears her new monthly cycle will continue the abuse she already suffers. Her father had already stroked her hair earlier in a un-fatherly way, prompting her to cut it off. The more woman she feels she becomes the more attractive she feels she'll become to her father.
