TV Wall Mount For 16" Studs? - Blu-ray Forum

I am trying to find a wall mount that will make use of my 16" studs. I have marked everything out on the wall and there is a stud, dead center on the wall where the tv will go. Out from the center, 16" on each side - is another stud.

However, all the mounts I am seeing are 29" or less. I think the only mount I can go with is the .. Sanus VMPL3B

Is it over kill for my 50" PZ800U ? Lol. Problem is when I mount this thing on the studs, it's going to be off. Even if I can slide the tv left or right to adjust, it's not going to give enough room.

Ideas? 150 for a mount isn't too bad.

I suggest you center the mount on the stud and attach it then use the largest toggle bolts that will fit thru the holes in the tv mount and finish securing it that way I think its your best option

I Baught A "level mount" For 150. at local store for 34-65 " TV'S !! Mount is 35" wide & has level on it . would work because my studs were at 16" too !!

IT'S NOT OVERKILL !!! What's more important :: having you're display secured to the wall or having it fall off ! IT'S ONLY A 2 GRAND !!!

another option you have if you cannot center the mount or get it close, is to place a piece of 3/4 plywood on the wall and secure with lag bolts to the studs.from an enginering standpoint, you will have a sturdier base. then center the mount on the plywood. i had to do this with one of my 50" in the living room. i liked the look so much that when i built my theater room, i added another 50" plasma and mounted with the same plywood technique. i have pics in my gallery. btw i used birch cabinet grade plywood.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went with the mount in my first post. Cost a little more, but gives me 3 studs to mount to and I don't have to jerry rig anything. Also allows for expansion too

Ordered an hour ago and is shipping out today. Should have it tomorrow if it ships out today. Gotta love PRIME!

I would suggest cutting a hole in the drywall between the 3 studs and adding cross boards between them at the height of the TV. This is commonly done in kitches so cabinets can be fastened anywhere along a horizontal plane instead if worrying where the studs are.

That would tear up the wall and as fun as it may be, my plate is already full with drywall repairs I have to elsewhere.

Well, the mount arrived! It is freaking heavy. I am going to put it up in a few and get it ready for the tv on Christmas day

That's looks like a pretty substantial mount and even stronger than the one I used. Your is rated at 280 lbs. mine is rated at 185 lbs. capacity.

Nevertheless, I mounted my 58" Panny and can tell that it is rock solid. Even just 2 of those lag bolts can hold me, and I weigh more than the 128 lb TV!

I bought a fancy mount from Sanus. Pulls out up to 2 feet from the wall.

I have a 140 pound TV on it. Curious thing is that it mounts to only 2 studs.

Sanus is expensive but in my opinion absolutely the best.

I have to say, this thing is a beast. Problem was, every other mount would not work. It would have been off center and that would drive me insane. With this mount, I can center it and make it longer so that it can attach to all 3 studs. Which I did. Sturdy as a rock. Only way it's coming down is if the house does.

This is my first Sanus and I went by reviews. The quality is there and you get a great product for the money. This thing would have cost me $350 at best buy easy.

We mount tvs like this everyday to only two studs. We have NEVER had one come off in the 7 years we've been doing this. If it can't be centered then we use toggle bolts to get it centered. Lags in the middle and 2 toggles on each side. That mount I'm sure works great but wasn't really needed. We always do a hang test. Mount the mount on the wall then hang from it. If it will hold a 200lbs guy it will hold a tv for a very long time. Sanus makes the best mounts. And ebay is a good place to find the mounts. BTW...how are you getting power to the tv? And the other cables? Where are they going? You know they need to be CL rated to go into the wall? And TV power cords cannot go in the wall. It's against code. You'd have to have an electrician put a box up behind the tv to hide any power cord...legally.

BTW...that mount you got you need for 58" or bigger TVs or 47" and up LGs. The LGs have their holes in the back spaced farther apart than the normal mount will allow. That mount you have is expandable. Also the articulating arm mounts work great, too. I have 2 in my house. One on a 46" Samsung and one on a 50" Pioneer. I love the viewing angles.

Hole is going where it needs to in one of the available triangles of drywall you see. It will be going behind the wall. Not in the wall. See, on the opposite side of that wall, are stairs. Under those stairs, is a closet with exposed studs. So, no wires in the wall

They will be easily accessible. I am going to put a hole in the bottom part of the wall and put a dummy receptacle. No box, just a frame so I can put a plate on it and make it look nice.

As for toggle bolts, no way. Package says the mount needs attachment to two studs - for the normal mounts. This one can do two fine, however when expanded, 3 are needed. That worked perfectly for me. I am sure your tv's have never moved once up, but I am not going to risk that. I will spend a few extra dollars to get what I need and be done with it. Besides, this thing can support up to 80"

I am future PROOF! Hehe

thats a nice looking mount and tv you got there

when i first decided to mount my tv i ran into a problem of my wall and its lack of studs!!!

half the wall had studs the other half was missing then, and it was a great spot to hang my tv at. I had to use the wall on the opposite side of the room which works but isnt my ideal place for the tv.
