Press the Menu button twice and then go to Audio Output setting and make sure its set to HDMI. If its not then you won't get sound. Also I had to swap out a cable box the other day then did not output sound thru HDMI for some reason.

MY cable box was so complex (ashamed to say) that the audio output settings were buried in the menu under the heading of "devices"...who the F looks under "Devices" for the audio settings!? Why not call it "Audio"...

TWC 8300HDC, by the way.

every box has the same settings?

anyways..buy an optical cable, call it a day. not worth the hassle and you gain nothing by having hdmi sound

Believe it or not - some cable companies do not have the HDMI on their cable boxes "enabled" forcing you to get a newer box (with a higher rental fee). I've seen this with C_X cable in the south. Plugged HDMI in - it worked for about 2 minutes then I get a message on the screen that flashes quickly and goes away about how HDMI is no enabled for this blah blah blah. Called the cable company and they verified it and told my friend that he must get the new box. This might be your problem. Cable companies have disabled the USB ports on their boxes also (but by FCC law the firewire ports must be activated).

out this mess . . . . .

What state do you live in? Who's the cable provider?

OH. I see! Time-Warner? they'll tell you . . . . .is it the Samsung Box? or another box?

Actually you do. You get to run one single cable to your TV.
