Btw, here is where I got the "game changer" quote from for the MGS pack, in case anyone wanted a source:
That VideoGame Blog (TVGB): How do you feel about LittleBigPlanet being nominated as one of the best games of the year? Alex Evans (AE): I think it’s amazing this year that so many blockbusters are coming out. Like, my god, the quality of games this year. If you’re a gamer, you’re bankrupt right now because there are so many good games. We’re just really stoked that it’s in that league. TVGB: And you’re also working on a sequel right? AE: Yes. Kinda. The whole team is behind LBP, whether it’s a sequel or not, I don’t know. I think sequels are kind of…it’s not a MMO, but the way I think of it about is much more like that: we have a community and we want to support them. I don’t want those guys to buy a sequel and not be able to play the levels they made. What we’re going to do is find different ways; at least a sequel; bigger than a sequel. I want to shock you guys with news that you don’t know what’s coming and you’ll be like, “Oh my God, can they do that with LBP?” The Metal Gear pack we just finished. It’s coming out and some people assume it would be costumes and stuff and I can’t tell you right now what’s in it, but it’s game changing — it’s really awesomely different. And so, with LBP, we’re going to keep pushing it in those directions. http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/200...edia-molecule/ So there you have it, from an official at MM. Hope they live up to the hype they are putting out there but my guess is its just going to be music for your levels. Prove me wrong, MM, prove me wrong. Also since this is costumes, stickers, AND a "game changer" except to pay AT LEAST 6 dollars for it if not close to 1/5 of what the game cost you. I cant imagine it being cheaper than the street fighter pack. Again, prove me wrong MM, but HIGHLY doubtful. |

Still, I can think of a couple of small minor updates I can make in my Winter Wonderland level. This package will help in the later part of my level - but really, it only helps some basic visual flares - nothing that will improve the gameplay of a created level. Anyway, I think this package is worth the value. Thumbs up from me. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Also, going back to my post yesterday about the level with "animation in it".... I sent a message to the guy who made it, and he explained to me how he and another guy came up with the idea, and had been working on a way to get it to work. Originally they tried to do it using emitters (which is how I thought they did it), but he said that didn't work very well, so they used a giant wheel with 12 different "frames" on it, which makes me realize how huge this wheel really was. It's timed, obviously, to "click" 12 times, and each frame also is synced up with stobe lights, to create the image of a film projector sort of flashing the movie onto a screen. Pretty interesting. For anyone that missed my last post and wants to see it: Level Title: The Movies Creator: Teebonesy It's probably easier to search for it based on the creator's name. You know, the packs could also be priced based on expected sell-through and how it effects the community - 2.99 for the holiday pack could be that cheap because it helps development. Maybe the MSG pack will be the same as the SFII because they know more people will buy it.
I'm really stumped by that quote... A sackboy tool (a la grapling hook gun)? MGS levels? (doesn't strike me as a game changer) Actual Metal Gears as monsters? ![]() Stealth? (don't think it would get a lot of mileage) Based on the quote, it sounds like it has to be huge - that doesn't leave many options other than something that impacts basic level design. Even a top down camera sounds minor in context. Maybe we're getting the image importer? |

Ok, NOW we know what will be in the MGS pack (probably coming out Tuesday in the store update).
The upcoming Metal Gear Solid level pack for LittleBigPlanet will add 11 new Trophies to the game. The Trophy list reveals some exciting details about the upcoming expansion pack. For example, "Rexecutioner" will have you going against a LBP recreation of Metal Gear REX. Looks like Sackpeople will be packin' some heat in the expansion in the form of a paintball gun. If you buy the level pack, you'll be able to include this new paintballing mechanic to your levels. Sounds fun! http://www.ps3fanboy.com/ Now toefer, you may want to re think your post responding to me about the price of this pack. I can now see that we might have to pay $10-$20 for this pack. If you look at the trophy list it seems MM has finally listened to us. We are getting new LEVELS, finally. MGS levels, at that. Man, they are going to milk this in the pricing but it looks well deserved. |

![]() If they think they can get away with a $20 DLC pack, they are crazy. It will have to be broken down into much smaller packs, to offer multiple options, if anything. Too many people will want the paintball thing, but won't way to pay $20 for it. The highest I can imagine is $14.99, but they'd still be really pushing it, in terms of how many people they really expect to bite at that price. ALSO, if it's more than $10, I'd be surprised if it was really coming out next week. A pack that big (and at a price that high) would probably have to have more of an announcement, rather than, come Wednesday night, say "oh, tomorrow we're putting out the MGS pack, it will be $20". There are a lot of people who don't have the game that are now more interested because of the MGS pack, but if they find out they have to pay $20 to get it, I figure they'll find other things to do with their $80. However, I will revise my original estimate, based on now knowing there are apparently 5 levels, and say it will be $14.99 at the most. Think about it... you paid $60 for ~60 levels, and all the creating tools, tons of costumes/objects/stickers etc. Would people really pay $15 for 5 more levels, a paint gun, and some costumes? Some die-hard MGS fans, yes, but not too many other people. Anyhow, I'm interested to see how this paintball gun works. It sounds as though it will work similar to a jetpack (in terms of placing it into your levels). Depending on the price of the MGS pack, I hope they sell it separately. I was trying to think of other 80's-ish things to add to my Connect Four level, and with the paintgun I thought of a potential one (depending on how it works)....SpinArt! Just set up a wheel with a bolt, and add a switch to allow them to control the speed. Last edited by toef; 12-18-2008 at 10:50 PM. |

Um, its not coming out for a week (well, less than a week now) PLUS if you check my link they already show the new trophy's already on a PS3 interface. Everything is already done. I actually will be QUITE surprised if this comes out past next week (Christmas) as this is PERFECT leverage for MM to try to sell more copies of a (while very highly rated) under-performing game.
And...I also want to add that I DO believe the character pack and the sticker/level pack will be sold separately. We saw from the very beginning where the bundle and the sticker/level pack was two different images. When I thought the sticker pack was maybe just music/stickers for making a level id figure they'd be in the bundle with the characters as that would make sense because that is not very much extra to sell separately (if they did, it would probably be 2 or 3 dollars). But now that we know what we know, and going back to those images being separate in the first unveiling, it would make sense for these both to be sold separately. HOWEVER, I still believe the character pack will still be $5.99 (using Street Fighter as an example of pricing) with an ADDITIONAL $5.99 for the level pack (has new trophies, new levels, new weapon, and supposedly MGS stickers for your levels) for a total of $12 bucks for the whole thing. Does this sound reasonable? Do you think it will be priced some way different? How much would you be willing to pay? Last edited by netguy503; 12-18-2008 at 11:32 PM. |

This should be fine to post here (even though we have a separate thread for things like this). MGS LBP level pack trophies:
QuickFire Artiste Fire 40 paintballs in under 5 seconds Rexecutioner Destroy the Metal Gear REX boss Ace Act 3 and Act 4 Ace Act 3: The Mission and Act 4: The Level Factory Ace Act 5: The Boss Ace Act 5: The Boss Paint Splurge Fire 5,000 paintballs Diamond Hunter Destroy the 5 hidden target diamonds in Act 4: The Level Factory Thrifty Painter Complete Act 3: The Mission firing less than 125 paintballs Virtual Survivor Achieve a score of 3,750 in the VR Survival Challenge Speedy Rexecutioner Destroy the Metal Gear REX boss in under 2 mins 30 seconds METAL GEAR SOLID® Booty Master Collect all of the METAL GEAR SOLID® prize bubbles Paint Sharer Publish a level containing the METAL GEAR SOLID® Paintinator Powerup So 11(!) confirmed trophies plus 5 confirmed levels (if each one is as big as the MM levels in the game, OH MY GOD...) + 1 LBP MGS VR MISSION (a LBP MGS VR mission *faints*) confirmed for this pack. My friends...prepare for your wallets to cry. |

Once I have that paintball gun, I'm going to be able to go back and re-design my SOCOM level "Bitter Jungle" to something a LOT closer to what I had originally envisioned. I can't wait for next week. And with my Christmas holidays officially coming up (they unofficially started this past Monday with all the crappy weather we've been getting in Calgary), I'll have lots of time to re-design, re-build, and re-tweak. |

LBP Premium Level Packs + Costume Packs (Metal Gear Solid Edition) - on the PS Store 12/23
Just when you thought we were done with the Holiday surprises (Free Santa, Festive Level Pack, LBC1 winners, etc, etc) we have one more announcement up our sleeve…and it’s a dozy. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been biting our tongues, and finally we can reveal our latest offering (originally ‘somewhat’ announced at this years TGS) – Metal Gear Solid packs - Available 12/23 on the PlayStation Store. Metal Gear Solid Premium Costume Pack You’ve seen Solid Snake, but have you seen the rest of the cast? (well, ok…maybe you have… ) Meryl Silverburgh, Screaming Mantis & Raiden each have their own costumes from the MGS world. Get all 4 characters for the price of 3 at $5.99 on the PS Store, or pick your favorite and buy it individually for $1.99. Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack Now that you know about our Festive Level Pack, which fills your Pop-it tool with a ton of “Create” materials, objects and stickers, our Premium Level Packs introduce that and a whole lot more. So without further adeu…lets talk about what’s inside the MGS Level Pack (and this time we mean “Level” pack…) First off, you’ll get a new Sackboy costume… the Gurlokovich Soldier. Plus tons of new stickers (72), materials (12), decorations (10), and objects (18). The objects are especially cool, why you ask…well, in addition to these ‘create’ materials, our Premium Level Packs include new Story Levels and they’re filled these new objects. That’s because, Media Molecule teamed with Konami to create 5 new Story Levels and 1 new Challenge Level for you to enjoy. Now we couldn’t just build a level using the basic tools above, we need music, new sound effects, and new elements to provide a true MGS experience. So you’re getting these in the Level Pack, as well: * 1 new background music track * 3 new interactive music tracks * 1 new Metal Gear Solid themed ‘sound object’ * New Plasma Ball ‘danger element’ * New Laser Sight ‘gadget’ * New functioning Searchlight lamp – for those special ‘exclamation mark’ moments …and finally, the piece de resistance…THE PAINTINATOR (and Paint Switch) Now, not only will you be able to run, jump, push, pull, swing, etc, etc in LBP, but now you’ll be able to splatter anything that comes between you and the end of any level. Once you equip the Paintinator, you can send sacksized paintballs flying by mashing on the R1 button and using the right stick to aim. Few things about flying paintballs, when Sackboys are hit with them, it feels like a very weak slap. You can also shoot ‘Brains’ from a safe distance and progress thru levels much easier. In addition to the Paintinator, we’re introducing a Paint Switch, so you can attach it to any object and set it to destruct after being splattered with enough paint. Here’s a video to show you the Metal Gear Solid Level Pack in action… Add to all that, there are 12 new Trophies to unlock (and if you pay attention to the story at all, we’re not a big fan of Trophy Levels). So now you see why we’ve been biting our tongue on this announcement. Tons of new gameplay, tons of new game-changing objects, and tons of create materials…all for just $5.99 (shesh…did that just sound like an infomercial?). We absolutely can’t wait to see what the community does with this pack and the new types of levels this will bring to the Share Planet. And wait…there’s more… So, here’s one of the coolest things about this pack…you guys know LBP is all about PLAY, CREATE & SHARE – well, you’ll be glad to know that this Level Pack holds true to that. For those who buy the Premium Level Pack, you get everything above (and hopefully a lot of fun in-between). If you don’t buy it, you’ll still be able to enjoy the MGS pack goodness. Here’s how: * Non-MGS Level Pack owners can PLAY the MGS Story Levels by joining a “host” who owns the pack and play the levels online together. Now you won’t be able to keep any objects, but you can have tons of fun just PLAYing. * MGS Level Pack owners will be able to CREATE levels with any of these items (including the Paintinator) and SHARE them online for everyone to play. Again, we’re very excited to present this MGS Level Pack to you as a taste of how LBP can and will continue to evolve over time. With the support of our community, whether it’s creating new and awesome levels on the Share Planet or buying our Costumes and Level Packs, we’ll continue to provide more LBP goodness down the road in 2009. So check back on the PS Store on 12/23 and treat yourself to a present this holiday season ![]() Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year |

I've been hesitant on picking this up for those unbiased fans out there, is it 100% worth it? I'm not sure i'll have the time or the drive for the level creation, is there enough with the actual gameplay to have a great time? Also i heard that they are putting the squeeze on copyrighted material (mario, zelda, etc.) user created levels, is this true?
