It would've been on mine, but I'm waiting for more reports on the encode problems that a few folks have reported. It sounds like it may be player-specific, but I should be able to rent it from my local video store if reports point more firmly to that so I can see if I'd have problems with it.

Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove, and Othello for me. Will have to hold there. Funds are a bit tight.

Coop (what other characters refer to him as, full name Dale Cooper) is the main character is Twin Peaks the show, he's barely in Fire Walk With Me, but it still seems the likely candidate considering that was the last release.

I dunno about a Criterion release of that movie, it's all about the visual/sonic fury in some scenes and they tend to cram tons of extras on the same disc as the movie (which is OK since basically nothing they release has more than 2 channels). I think a practically tech-demo-worthy 3 hour movie with Dolby Atmos would be outside of their wheelhouse Good movie though!

The third segment is the best thing put to film this year. It's incredible. The other two are almost as good as well.

Is anyone else having major sync issues (like half a minute's worth) with Filmstruck on Roku? The fact that you can't sort your watch list is one thing, but not being able to get the right audio for the scene you're watching? Come on now.

I'm so glad the sale coincided with Barry Lyndon. I absolutely cannot wait to watch the new disc. It's been a few years since I've seen it overall.

I picked up Stalker and Ghost World as well.

I just checked and watched the beginning of Fish Tank and didn't see any problems.

I'm using Safari 11.0 on macOS Sierra 10.12.6, just for information.

But it all seemed to be working fine -- except that you practically need subtitles to understand these people. Uh-oh, I think Foggy's gonna report me now. Heh.

Just to throw some more logs on the fire, "Cooper" is also the bad guy ("We've got to hide in the cellar!) in 'Night of the Living Dead'.

Ahh, gotcha.

Well, high school is very much like those characters depicted in the film. Everyone falls into their little cliques and groups and is either this sort of person or that sort of person, etc.

The Princesses don't hang out with the nerds. The jocks don't hang out with the druggies, etc. Now, obviously, these aren't absolute rules or anything. But it is how it generally works. I mean, sure, a good friend of mine in HS was the girl who ended up being Prom Queen.* And believe me: That was not my clique. But barring the odd, random exception like that, it's very much as it is depicted in many teen films. It works like the jungle.

What The Breakfast Club did brilliantly, among other things, was distill that experience and everything that went along with it down into this group of characters, and what they represented and what they were experiencing.

* -- And no, I'm not saying that to pretend that I was ever "cool." It's just that her boyfriend, who was starting point guard, had his locker next to mine. So we saw each other a lot, which meant his GF and I saw each other a lot. And for a Princess, and essentially Queen of the high school, she was actually really nice and interesting.

I'm not a big "Breakfast Club" fan, this isn't a release I'm likely to buy any time soon, but from what I remember, at the beginning of the movie they are all stereotypes, but as they get to know each other, they expand a little bit, to the point where they see each other as humans and we the audience can see them as archetypes, reflecting people we knew or know. I mean, if you want to say it represents an expansion from one-dimensional to two-dimensional, I wouldn't disagree, but I think the third dimension is supplied by the audience, remembering the jock or the airhead that they went to high school with.

My high school experience was almost 100% like DAZED & CONFUSED and absolutely nothing like TBC, but I was in high school in the late 70's instead of the 80's. I can completely relate to the kids in D&C, and their interactions seem authentic to me, even though they could be labeled as the same exact type of stereotypes that are in TBC, even though I find TBC characters to be mostly artificial. But an era speaks to its own, I suppose.

Now Criterion has both eras, so pick your poison, because high school sucked in both!

For my taste, the situation in "Dazed and Confused" is a lot less forced than the situation in "The Breakfast Club". To be fair, though, I think that "The Breakfast Club" does a great job of accurately depicting the way that high school bullshit *feels* important to people in high school, where the people in "Dazed" seem to be very aware that it's all bullshit -- it feels more like an adult looking back fondly, where TBC (for better and worse) feels like it was written by a high school kid.

I ordered Barry Lyndon, Yi Yi, and Paris, Texas; all blind buys. Excited to watch them especially Kubrick's film. I'm not sure if I should order Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. Any suggestions? I've heard of the director, but I've never seen any of her works. I'm thinking of ordering Ikiru and either The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant or World on a Wire, however, I am trying to--as my lit professors say, "a comprehensive survey"--expand my knowledge and taste in film. I've seen Seven Samurai and Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, which I loved, so it's a must to watch more of their films. Oh, I'm considering Dekalog, as well.

If you are region-free, the UK release of Dekalog is at 25 fps, which should be the correct frame rate for a project that was shot for PAL tv. The Criterion release is 24, but has some great exclusive bonus features.
