Then when I go to weekend matinees with my kids, I spend my stubs points on concessions (I also have a bunch of free large popcorn coupons for AMC that I got with Coke rewards, so I usually spend little out of pocket on those concessions).

So yeah, if the plan is to get me to spend more on concessions, it's not working. I am notoriously cheap by nature, and this only assists me in that pursuit.

It definitely works but I haven’t quite seen more movies because of it yet, but I’ve been traveling. It is sad that Regal is trying to push back, as they’re the biggest chain here. However, I can just go straight to the kiosk

Oh no, I'm not suggesting that. It just seems like a hard business model to sustain.

Personally unless they figure out a way to go in on concessions with theatre chains I imagine this will be dead sooner rather than later. Even if it goes up to $20 a month most people will still use it enough that it will lose substantial $.

MoviePass has tons of options for sustainability in the future.

They will eventually go back to +$20.00 price plan. A lot of people including myself didn’t really know of the service when it was $35.00. They’ve gotten almost 600k new subscribers. That’s 600k new feet in the door. I’d say once the price goes up to $20 I can still see at minimum 20-30% of that base still staying. A lot of my friends say they would pay $30+ for it if they had known about it. They’re projecting 3.1 milion users by next summer. They’re going to have a lot of valuable data to bargain with the theaters + studios. In about 2.5 months they’ve managed to become a household name and brand. All the theaters I frequent with now have MoviePass signs near the counter (something like MoviePass accepted here or MoviePaas cAnnot Be used for concessions). Not surprisingly it’s the independent theaters with these signs more out in front. They see the value of it. Even if AMC tries to push back their business they lose by denying MP will be business smaller chains will jump at the chance to bring that traffic in.

It started at $35 a month? I'd consider paying that if it meant unlimited viewings.

Same here. I’ve gotten almost $200 worth of it. I do think I’ll slow down though in the coming weeks.

It’s tough for me to make a long drive crosstown to these late night showings every night. My closer theaters are showing the big ticket stuff still like Geo, Kingsman, It, etc. The theaters in the burbs are the ones showing smaller Indy films and I’ve been driving out here 3-4 times a week. It also helps as they have great recliners.

$25 seems like a good balance point. At first people might balk, but when you really drive home that you can see as many as 31 movies in a month and save ~440 bucks in the process (assuming 15 a ticket), it gets more attractive.

I usually go to matinees, which are $7.50 each even on the weekends. So unless I move somewhere like California where the matinees are $10+ each, I don't see $25 being worth it for me. I may drop it anyway if I get to go back to school next year since I will have virtually no free time. Work, lifting weights, training for marathons and being a full-time student. I have no idea how single parents do it.

Also depends how many movies out in the comings months you wanna see. If there is only 1 or 2 movies out in a month you wanna see. $25 isn't as worth it as $10 is.

Start looking at smaller movies....I have been pleasantly surprised at what is out there when there are little to no big named actors/actresses attached to it.

You know I have this crazy feeling one of us is gonna die in a theater.... Death by movie :\

No thanks, I don't tend to like the smaller movies, just the way I am. I doubt I'm going to die in a theatre, even with MoviePass I don't go as much as I did before I started exercising all the time.

I like the idea of moviepass and are considering signed up, but the problem is I don't have very much free time. Being a full time student and having a job 4 or 5 days a week, I don't have much time to go see movies all the time. Plus my theater is about 20 minutes from where I live.

I don't have many theaters near me. So the one I go to is the only option. But i'm at the theater at least 2-4 times on Friday and Saturday.

My bf has an MA in business and says, unless they’re dumb as a box of rocks, they don’t have to go bankrupt just because they’re paying for full priced movie tickets, or go in on concessions. We have a lot of armchair economists in this forum.

Really? I thought you did. I have about 3 theaters around me within a 5 mile radius.

I had the same mindset until I finally branched out (thanks to MoviePass) and saw them. Now I'm in love and wish I had been more open minded as I definitely missed many great films. I do live within 5 miles of a United Artists (Regal) and live in a top market so I'm fortunate to have easy access to Indie films.

How about Atlanta United officially welcoming themselves to the club of Georgia/Atlanta sports teams that choke in the first round of the playoffs and get eliminated at home?

Braves, Hawks, Falcons, Tech, Dawgs, Dream, Thrashers, Force... lol

Do you work night shifts or something? I don't know how anyone in the working world would primarily be able to go to matinees. I can only go to matinees on Saturday & Sunday, as I work 40+ hours a week during the day.

Also, $25 is only 3 matinees in your area. You don't think there would be at least 3 movies you'd want to see every month?

Hell, I'd definitely go up to $50 a month for this. That's 4 movie tickets in my area. And I go to more than 4 movies a month with or without Moviepass.
