I am curious on your opinion since you are a real user with nothing to gain or lose. Also what panel are you using currently?
I've only compared the UHD to the regular blu-ray at this point. I'll probably do a comparison between DV/HDR10 at some point down the road. But, again, even if the differences are minor, the color gradation improvement in the Dolby Vision version is certainly to be expected.

I use a 65-inch LG B6 OLED. Not optimal for HDR10 content--but also not the sad puppy that a certain user on here will lead you to believe. Lack of peak brightness and average tone-mapping aside, infinite contrast equates to infinite F-stops--and it's ability to produce 'true black', still makes for a terrific HDR experience, be it HDR10 or Dolby Vision.

As for Ralph Potts, remember, he also admits his TCL is not great at displaying Dolby Vision content. Which is why I think his comparisons are rather silly. Vincent Teoh's video, using the LG B7, is much more accurate, because even with the peak brightness of that panel falling short of 1,000-nits, it still utilizes an algorithm that acts as forcing dynamic metadata to HDR10, allowing it to be an applicable example of comparing the two formats.

No, you didn't. You tried to twist his quotes, and continually misinterpreted the context and intent of what he's said.

He never used a Samsung LCD, because he didn't have to. As I pointed out for the other user above, Teoh used two B7's, and said it was perfectly fine for comparing the two formats directly, because of the way the B7 tone-maps HDR10 content. That, and the fact that he calibrated a B7 capable of hitting 900-nits. So, it's not like it lacks in the peak brightness department.

And yet, another thread gone to shit.

Anyway, 'Westworld' is pretty damn great. Glad I get to enjoy this show in UHD at all.

Problem is, I don't think I'll want to view season 2 on HBO after experiencing it in 4K.

Dilemmas.

I just did a wholesale move of about three pages of posts that totally derailed this thread. I could have just removed them but decided not to erase everyone's posts.

They are now here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=276605

The mods are getting complaints of the UHD movie threads getting repeatedly derailed by a few members here who seem unable or unwilling to keep the HDR vs DV cheerleading and arguing to the appropriate thread for that. I have already issued a warning to stop the constant derailing of the movie threads. You can discuss HDR and DV specific to the movie or show of the thread topic. In this case, it is Westworld: Season One. You can discuss comparisons (in a civil and respectful manner toward each other) for this title, which means actually viewing the title first or discussing reviews comparing HDR and DV for this specific title, but again - do not derail the thread with it. It ain't hard, folks. Please be respectful of all of the members who participate in these movie threads and stop ruining it for everyone else.

Some of you seem to be completely clueless and muck up every movie thread you touch. This is getting reported and the moderation team is getting tired of it.

US and UK has the show in 4K+BD for both LE tin and standard.

In Australia, the only way to get 4K+BD is the LE tin (Standard 4K Set is 4K Disc only).

UK and Australia has a BD Steelbook.

Canada appears to be getting a 6 Disc Blu-Ray case (not a UHD case) inside the tin case.

Seems Canada and Australia and getting screwed... But, I’m happy that with the LE Tin I bought I got the show in 2160pUHD and 1080pBD (although I don’t like the 4K only trend).

Just finished re-watching the series and I'll be damned if this isn't the best thing on TV besides GoT right now. It's smart sci-fi with a heart and filled with incredible actors doing their best work in years. Jonathan Nolan has finally joined rank with his brother with Westworld and I'm now just as excited for season two of WW as I am for the final season of GoT.

The UHD 4K HDR image was superb on my TCL P607. It was no GotG 2 in the HDR department but it still puts the blu-ray to shame. I'm so glad I finally jumped into the 4K HDR game because between GotG 2, AFGM and now this, I'm getting that same feeling I had when I watched the Casino Royale blu-ray on my PS3 when I was 22 for the first time.

I'll take the bump on the chin for this. I shouldn't have played into the dude's trolling habits, especially since I know better.

Going forward, I won't contribute in the derailing of threads, such as this one.

Apologies to the users that come in here looking for useful feedback on the UHD and series in general.

Do you ever pay attention? Come back when you've watched Westworld to discuss Westworld. No one cares about your tiresome DV adverts. If you feel a need for them, go to the DV thread. When you were banned, I started to remember how much I liked this forum again.

Do what half the 4K forum has done and put Rocky on your block list. Now you never have to see him talk again. I haven't seen a post of his in months.

I would like to comment that the audio on episode six really blew me away. The clicking in the music moves into the overhead area of the room. The church bell moves through the speakers based on the where the camera is at. The hand guns firing off in the rear speakers while the chain gun is turning your brain to mush. This is a truly fantastic audio experience.

I joined this site back in 09 after lurking for a good long time. Over the years I have rarely went on the forums and posted so I guess despite having been a member for a while I didn't really have a feel for how things are around here. I was unaware that DV was such a childish topic around these parts. I can see now why some of the replies last night seemed overly critical and heated for no reason.

I don't see any point discussing DV in this thread unless you have it and want to comment on how much or little of a difference it makes on your setup when watching Westworld or you would like to discuss the opinions of professional reviews. Personally I am interested in hearing user opinions since it seems to make little to no difference according to the reviews I have seen. Obviously 12 bit color is going to be more accurate than 10 bit but does it make a noticeable difference on your screen when watching Westworld? It's a simple question really. I don't have DV but I will have it soon and my gear is already purchased. I am aware of what it can do and I already own Westworld. It's not about what I own or don't own. I don't have any need to justify the purchase of my gear because even if DV makes no difference at all my panel is already displaying a picture that I am completely satisfied with. My gear will be DV capable sometime in the coming year thanks to a firmware update and I would just like some real world opinions on what to expect with Westworld if that is possible. Hopefully I have made my position clear and users understand that I don't stand on either side of the fence. I just want some opinions on the topic without flinging poo at each other or getting upset.

That thread is a total train wreck and it is about DV as a technology not DV as it pertains to Westworld. Also, Your opinion makes no sense because you don't even own Westworld. How could you know if you prefer DV in Westworld without even viewing it? Maybe DV causes problems with the grain or the creators of Westworld just added it to satisfy a tech giant that paid them to add it but it really does nothing for the show. Maybe the guys who made the film don't like what HDR does to the film and they actually prefer to watch without it. I'm just saying it seems silly to judge a technology just because you own it when you have not even seen what it can do for the show in question.

To anyone that owns the 4K tin, where does it say to redeem the code to get the 4k streaming version. I tried HBO redeem and code was not valid. Thanks

This is a WB release, not HBO, so you'd have to redeem in Flixster or VUDU etc. I think it was mentioned that Flixster redeems seem to give UHD rights, but I don't think anywhere (currently) has a 4K streaming version available.

So is the UHD HDR10 only? How're people watching a DV version?

According to the packaging and the reviews I have read Westworld is HDR10 and DV capable on the UHD disc.

Walmart Canada finally has a listing online for the slipbox version of Westworld I bought in store, for anyone in Canada interested in it instead of the tin version:
