Hello, my Harmony 880 took a crap on me so now I'm looking at updating to either the Harmony One or Harmony 1000. I like the way the Harmony 1000 looks but I also like how the Harmony One feels in my hand as well. Which one would you guys/gals go for? I looked online and people are saying they have horrible problems with the 1000. I'm not sure what to get.

Only problems i heard about this was with some samsung DLP where it wouldn't actviate the hdmi/dvi port 3 correctly and there were some hoops to jump through. This though was back when this TV model was new. They have since updated that coding to now properly activate that port on the TV. As with anythign it sometimes takes a while to support newer devices properly and you also run into people who can't figure out how to program it as it may be too complicated for them to program the time on their VCR's. |

Well I didn't like the Harmony 1000 it can't do RF (z-wave) I ended up taking the 1000 back and got a Harmony 890 Pro. I like to control my lights, shades and screen curtain from my remote. But the Harmony one can't do RF either so I would go for the one you can get the cheapest.

Some customers online were saying their 1000 kept locking up on them. I'm not sure if it's true or not but that's what they say. I'm not sure what to do.

I was just looking at the 880 on amazon before finding this thread. Harmony One and 1000 seem like overkill to me. Something throws me off about touch-screen remote, and it's just a gut feeling, can't really explain. The 1000 looks cool, but not like a remote...know what I mean? Something tells me my daughter would play with it and then suddenly blast some audio through my setup without me knowing till speakers are left in pieces. That's probably abit extreme, but I want a remote that looks like a remote, and touch screen is not necessary. Exactly what happened to your 880? Were you trying to program the remote start on your car??? j/k

Yea, the problems that a myriad of folks have had online with the 1000 is scaring me off - chances are I'm going to go with the One in a few weeks, since my last universal remote was part of a receiver I no longer have...

If you need the RF function then go with the 1000. If not the One is the one to go with. I have and use the 550, 670, 880 (don't like cuz the buttons are so closed to each other and can't rwad or feel them in the dark), 890 (same issue cuz almost same remote as 890 except 890 is RF) and 1000. I only use the 1000 for the RF function. It's cool looking but not as practical for tv watching as the other remotes because you have to toggle between screens for the DVR functions and the number buttons. I like the Harmony One the best. It would great if they came out with the One in RF!! It's so much easier to use than the others. And I'm pretty sure the 1000 can do the Z Wave lights? Call Harmony and they can set it up for you. Their tech support is great!

So to add to the hierarchy my order of picks for remotes...(and assuming none RF)
One 670 550 1000 880,890 For RF 1000 890 The 670 and the One have the best buttons and easiest feature/function buttons to use. They are easy to find/feel in the dark. Yes I know they all have glow buttons but when you get older it's harder to read them. Especially at night! I think that the others that like the 880 and 890 just have not use the the different types of remotes. I really just don't like their button set up at all. |

I just called Harmony (tech support for Geek Squad cuz I can) and the 1000 WILL do z wave. You have to buy the base station, of course (the base station comes with the 890). If you try it without the base station you can't get RF or Z wave. We've been programming these things for z wave for 2 years and only encountered issues a few times but nothing we couldn't work around. And we've done plenty of lighting systems. Lutron and others. You sometimes need Lutrons codes or remotes to learn the codes but???
FYI...Harmony gives you tech support for 60 days from when you made your log on. After that it's FAQs or pay for. Or you can have a service come out to program it. Or I guess you could just ask the forum here and get the correct info? ![]() |

Please see link from Logitech own fourm. http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/...cending&page=1 "I apologize for not previously posting a response to this discussion thread. This delay in posting may have caused some confusion regarding Z-Wave lighting capabilities of the Harmony 1000 and so I would like to clarify the situation by offering an official response on behalf of Logitech. The Logitech Harmony 1000 was announced in September 2006 at CEDIA. Although Z-Wave lighting was never formally announced, the plan at that time was to have full Z-wave support of third-party Z-Wave Modules. Since that date Logitech has made the decision not to offer control of Z-Wave compatible lighting and home automation equipment for the Harmony 1000 remote. The company is focused instead on improving the interaction with the Harmony 1000 as it relates to the control of audio & video entertainment devices. Z-Wave lighting control will continue to be supported for the Harmony 890, Harmony 895 & Harmony 890 Pro remote control. Kindest Regards, The Harmony Support Team Kindest Regards, Don" |
