I don't think it's a bad fit, and it needs to be like 3 hours long, but it will flop.
If BladeRunner 2 of all things did, this will as well, right?

I wish Blade Runner 2049 and Valerian didn't flop because I want more, but I can't do anything about it. I'm just happy these movies are still getting made somehow and I plan on enjoying the heck out of them.

3 hours is doable, but the problem is it is 3 hours...they have a time getting people to stay in a theater for 2 hours, maybe 2 and a half...

The problem is they cannot split it up because there isn't much of a spot in the books I can think of that would sustain a break between the story if they did a Part 1 and a Part 2.

Dune needs to be done as a mini-series with a good production budget. That is the ONLY way I foresee it succeeding.

David Lynch's Dune had the budget and the star power, but they had to really work out the editing and the plot in a reasonable time frame.

SyFy's Dune had the runtime, but not the budget and star power.

I can only think of a premium channel (HBO, Showtime, Starz, even AMC...or Netflix) being able to give it the perfect place to be imagined and done.

I watched the Dune movie recently and can see where it had potential but also it fell down in so many places and felt it can't really be done proper justice without maybe being in 2-3 parts running about 2.5hrs each.

I'm pretty sure they'll give it their best shot to do it in one and the talent to try and pull it off is certainly there, but time will tell. Blade Runner 2049 certainly showed Denis has an apt hand at combining visuals and story in a very strong way which Dune requires but I don't think they'll "lighten" the tone it generally went with in the Lynch movie

Dune, Children of Dune and God, Emperor of Dune would be an amazing 6 film saga by the right director. Wonder what Peter Jackson is up to right now. Ooh, Zack Snyder!

Peter Jackson would turn it into a middle ages fantasy in space and Zack would get lambasted for making everything slo mo lol.

Tbh, both those would be fine by me, but think Denis is probably the right talent for bringing visuals and story together and not bad at action scenes either.

Ya never know but 3-hour long sci fi epics are not usually big money-makers. It may do well. Id actually release it over two films and tighten them up two hours or so a piece. Thats how lots of stuff gets released or used to get released and it works out fine. Look how great the original Superman and Superman 2 are. Or Lord of the Rings for example. Break them up!

As for this reboot... Yeah, Im down because despite how much I like David Lynch, the original Dune is pretty cheesey and not really good at all. I know it wasnt David's fault but its bad nonetheless. Redo it RIGHT and Ill buy in.

I wouldn't necessarily call Avatar a Sci fi epic but it made big bank and so does Star Wars. So as long as Denis somehow manages to make Dune as great as possible from book to movie for audiences to be engaged by, it'll do fine.

The LoTR movies proved you can have long fantasy epics and make big bank.
