I haven't had this happen with a Blu-Ray yet, but I've had a DVD or two that has had problems like this.

I don't think you should have and problem exchanging it at Best Buy. They will likely make you exchange it for another copy of the same movie, but it should be fine.

I've had defective discs that I've taken back before, and they let me exchange it for another copy.

One time I bought a DVD, and I could tell when I bought it that the disc had come loose inside of the case. But it was a DVD that I really wanted and it was the last copy in the store. I gambled with it because sometimes they come loose like that, but when you open them up, there's no actual damage. Well, in this case, the disc was scratched, and rather badly.

I went back to Best Buy, went to customer service, showed the guy the disc and showed him my receipt, which proved I had just bought the DVD. If I recall correctly, in that case, they let me take store credit since they were out of other copies. Keep in mind that they won't normally do this if there is another copy in stock.

Another time I re-bought a movie on DVD that I already owned, but it had newer/slightly updated packaging, and is specifically said on the back of box that it was an anamorphic transfer, and my original copy wasn't anamorphic, nor did the box specify that it was. I figured maybe they came out with an updated version.

Well, I get the thing home, open it up, pop it in, and find that it's the exact same edition that I already had, and was not anamorphic. So, I came to the conclusion that they hadn't updated the movie, itself, and they probably put some current standard-issue info on the back, with whoever was in charge of this not realizing that the movie wasn't anamorphic.

So, I took the movie back to Best Buy a day or two later, and I politely explained my dilemma to the girl at the customer service desk. I said that I understand when exchanging a DVD, they usually require you exchange it for a copy of the same movie, but that in this case, it's not that the disc was truly 'defective', but the info on the box describing what I was getting was inaccurate, and I would have the same problem if I were to take another copy.

She said that she couldn't give me a refund or anything like that, but if I wanted to get a different DVD, that would be fine. And luckily it was a Tuesday and I was already planning on getting some new DVDs that had come out that day anyway, so it all worked out in the end.

The point is that if you take it back, they should take care of you on some level. If they do give you a hard time for any reason, just push back a little and they should help you out. But really, if they have more copies in stock and if you just want to get a new, non-scratched copy, then you should have no trouble.
