I stored close to 100 blu-rays and DVDs in a non climate controlled storage facility for over 2 years. I live on the West Coast of Florida where it becomes extremely hot and humid for most of the year, so the internal temperature where they were stored likely reached the mid nineties for the most part. They were removed and are now stored in my den since I now have much more personal space and they all still look and play just fine.

Yeah, the thing about needing to store things in climate-controlled conditions is that if something is so fragile that it's going to degrade when it's stored at 90F, then it's going to degrade at 70F, but at a somewhat slower rate.

Thanks for sharing, that definitely makes me feel better! I've been lucky enough that so far none of my discs have bronzed.

I checked mine and it's working fine.
To elaborate, I watched the entire movie with my daughter a week ago, no issues.

My Omega Man disc I bought in 2008. White dots on surface but plays fine for now.

I watch my Shawshank disc frequently and it works just fine. I got it when it first came out as well.

has anyone found a resolution for any of these problems besides Criterion?

I recently found that my Saw 4 wasnt working so I found a new one cheap on ebay and it isnt working either.

I think these companies have a resposibilty to replace these discs for free when its been discovered their flawed.

Absolutely agreed. I for one have never heard of Lionsgate (who probably has the highest fail rate/problematic playback issues for their earlier titles and newer titles besides Paramount AFAIK) having replacement programs or correcting malfunctioning discs but I could be wrong.

No one? What are we supposed to do to find a good copy of our favorite movies keep buying until we find a good one.

Lionsgate customer service sucks, but the only real option to try to force them to be better is a class action lawsuit, and I doubt there is the interest/money to propel such an effort.

Saw IV has sold around 700,000 home video units, so there are hundreds of thousands of blu-ray copies in circulation - almost assuredly from multiple pressings, and likely from multiple factories as well. There is no way these are all dead, not even close. It sucks that you got a 2nd bad copy from eBay, but it should not be that hard to find a working copy - especially if you buy a new one at retail, which would very likely be from a new pressing.

Look like my copy of Chaos is going dead or is already dead. Won't load or my Blu-ray player doesn't even recognize it when I close it. I put another Blu-ray load without no problem. This is my second time wanted to watch Chaos BD. First time it load ok but in two scene it did freeze skip. Trying to remember which part.

Same with my Near Dark when I first got it from Ebay. It loaded with no problem until it got to the menu it would skip or I guess slow, freeze load up? Took me at least 3 or 4 tried to get to work.

Finally got Chaos to load, it freeze right in the beginning when it loading. Ain't that a b*tch..
Another early Lions gate BD gone bad

Anybody have trouble with the first bluray release of 'Enter the Dragon'? It just stopped working. No scratches or discoloration. No work. I also tried to watch 'Hellboy: The Golden Army", I get a message from my living room Panasonic and older Sony player that it can not play. It did, oddly enough, play in my bedroom Panny. Go figure.

The first blu-ray release of ENTER THE DRAGON is known to be defective. Mine was still sealed up until a month or so ago - opened it and it would not play in any of my players. Contacted Warner Bros. and after talking to someone there they sent me a new copy of the 40th Anniversary Edition after I returned the old disc.

Anyone have any issues with Murder in the First Kevin Bacon? I've had the blurry for years and it's never played audio?

Any ideas how I can contact the company for a replacement?

This may have been reported before, but my The Lady Vanishes disc stops playing at around 1:20:20 (I'm assuming that is where the layer change is). I cannot access any content beyond that point. No evidence of browning though.

If it just freezes up at that point and won't go any further then yeah it's the layer change. I had this happen with my original copy of The Hunt for Red October.
