Default B&K Reference 70 Processor

Has anyone had any experiences with the B&K Reference 70 Processor? I think I have narrowed my search down to the B&K and the Integra DHC-9.9.

Thanks

The B & K doesn't do HD/lossless audio, I think unless it does now. I looked at that model out of curiosity some months back.

If that doesn't bother you ultimately which ever one you prefer is gonna win out. You're going to have to bring it in house to get an honest feel for the sound quality/functionality of it combined with the amps you will be using.

I know that's not much help, but preference for SQ is personal. I doubt you will find any owners here to see if they have had any issues with them. Some Integra owners though.

This is a brand new model that does do the new lossless codecs. I havent been able to hear it yet, but I was interested in this unit as well. I have the B&K Reference 200.7 amp, and I was hoping to match these guys up, but its a little out of my price range right now. Where abouts do you live? There may be a dealer in your area with it, if not I will check my area to listen to it.

Thanks!

I live in Staten Island, N.Y. I will go on the B&K website and look for a dealer in my area.

What's up man. I also live on Staten Island. Sound By Singer in Union Square Manhattan is a B&K dealer. Good luck there man, they have great gear, but their staff has to be the most arrogant I have ever come across.

Hi,

Thanks for the note.

I would never buy from Sound By Singer if they were the last place on Earth because of their arrogance and snobbery. I took my $6,000.00 that I had for speakers and bought them elsewhere.

I think we all have a dealer or 2 in our respective hometowns that are like that. I know of one here in Oakville, ON (west of Toronto) and I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of dropping even a penny into their till. My dealer in Burlington is much different. They've been around for ages and their service is outstanding. No snobbery, just nice people helping customers to get the right stuff within their budget. It's a pleasure to shop there and drop my dollars!

Nothing worse than snobbery when shopping for speakers. I went to a place near me that carried high-end stuff, and I felt like because I'm young, they just treated my like garbage like I couldn't afford anything in there. They were just arrogant and rude and acted like I shouldn't be there. I didn't go with any big name brand speakers when I did decide to purchase, but if I would have, I wouldn't have bought them from there.

There's been quite a lot of discussion of it on AVS, so its worth having a look over there. It seemed to be pretty highly regarded. These are the interfaces from teh B&K website:
  • 14 Discrete Audio & Video Inputs
  • 6 HDMI Inputs and 1 HDMI Monitor Output. (version 1.3b)
  • 8 Component Inputs and 2 Component Monitor Outputs
  • Upconverting and Scaling of Component, S-Video and Composite to HDMI
  • 16 Digital Inputs (8 optical / 8 coaxial) Including Digital Audio on the 6 HDMI Inputs
  • 5.1 / 7.1 Analog Inputs for SACD / DVD Audio / Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD Master Audio
  • 1 Pair Balanced (XLR) Input / 1 Balanced Digital Input
  • 8 Unbalanced (RCA) Outputs / 8 Balanced (XLR) Outputs
That clearly says to me that it doesn't process hi def audio codecs over HDMI.

Nick

As the poster above mentions, AVS is very good place to check for equipment forums. There is usually a lot of in depth talk among owners so it is worth looking at. If this is a new model, I would first check there for other users that bought it as they will usually uncover and post most bugs found.

I have a dealer like that by me as well. Went shopping for speakers for my rich uncle, and he just gave me a credit card to go pick up a set of B&W 802D and a HTM1D Center (which by the way I have a orgasim watching a movie on them) and one salesman wouldnt give me the time or day because he just figured there was no way I could afford them. (I am only 20 and dress like a bum) So another guy came up to me and just showed me everything I wanted to hear and he got the commission check the other salesman almost had a heart attack. Moral of the story if your in sales never judge somebody of the age or look of them cause anybody could have money.

Thumbs up I have the model before that and would say..

to look at the Outlaw Audio Model 997 that is comming early 09' I have a B & K and love it but I plan on getting the 997 Outlaw when I upgrade next. The specifications and quality are great and the price is so low only $1300! I was skeptical about Outlaw until I buyed their 12" sub and now familiar with them they are a great value. Their 997 to me rivals brands like B & K, Anthem, Sunfire and others which are a lot more money!
