It’s painfully obvious. I noticed it in the first 5 seconds of watching the UHD.
Straight thought my gear was broken. Literally had to put another UHD disc in, then the BD to make sure I wasn’t crazy. It is so bad I honestly don’t know how it ever made it to the manufacturing stage. Just an absolutely horrible UHD. The worst example of what the format has to offer over std bluray.
Often wrong but never in doubt? HINT: Expressing opinions as if they were Holy Writ is unconvincing, to say the least.

^^ Did you have any sort of valid point here? You’re debating known facts? The disc is widely known to be soft, yet you debate that and say it’s opinion. Mmmmk.

Read the thread posts here in which I and others have said that we thought the image quality of the UHD HDR version of Oblivion looked just fine. But whether its our opinion or yours, it's just an "opinion," isn't it. Think about it.

I don't mind the look of the UHD but it's clearly not as sharp as the BD, and I would have been much happier with the UHD if it retained the sharpness of the BD and the color of the UHD. I also would have enjoyed the movie more if TC wasn't in it, but there's no fixing that issue for me.

I have no problem with yours of anyone else's opinion that the UHD is less sharp than the BD version. What I do have trouble with, though, is the accusation that those of us with a different opinion "either need new eyes or a new TV." The poster's over the top comments went on from there, but you read them just as I did. We should all be careful to avoid turning debates about image quality into Affairs of the Heart.

Your comment about Tom Cruise is interesting. During the early part of his career, I downgraded any movie he was in simply because he was in it, Over the years, though, I have come to appreciate Cruise's choices in films. Somehow, Cruise films usually turn out to entertain me. Tiny Tom Cruise, though, is still a polarizing figure.

Cruise has always been a favorite of mine. His movies tend to be entertaining WAY more often than not. But Oblivion is one of the few TC movies I don't really care for at all.

It's pretty though.

Any time I see a Tom Cruise movie I just sit there thinking "Well, there's Tom Cruise." I can still enjoy some of his films, but it's always just kind of a distraction. It's like I can just see him pretending to be someone else instead of actually seeing the character. I don't have that issue with any other actor.

i think hugh jackman would have been better in this film, but the part, to me, was only a small piece of this particular story. interested to see how he pulls off top gun though.

I think the same, Tom Cruise always plays the same role, that is Tom Cruise.
When Eyes Wide Sut was announced I thought "if Kubrick can't pull out something different from Cruise then nobody can". It turned out that his ex-wife stole the movie while Tom Cruise was playing Tom Cruise. But then Magnolia was premiered and that was the first and only time someone got something different and good out of Cruise. Maybe he was enjoying himself with the role or Paul Thomas Anderson is a better director than Kubrick.

Vincent Teoh of HDTV test himself has confirmed that the uhd version is less sharp and has less finer details, therefore it is a FACT.

However, a person is definitely still allowed to like the image. The HDR and vibrancy is brilliant at times.

Again, the matter of sharpness isn’t negotiable as opinion. It’s a technical fact.
Pretty cut and dry. An opinion would be if I preferred the BD over the UHD, or vice versa. That’s an opinion.
If you want to be offended, so be it.

in all fairness to the movie but the BEST aspect of the UHD is the Dolby Atmos mix.

Also, keep in mind that people with smaller sized TV screens won't see the diminished sharpness and detail on the UHD version over the blu-ray, but they presumably will still see the uptick in WCG and HDR.

Hence, in the final analysis, if you have one of the smaller sized 4k TVs or sit far enough away from your TV not to see a difference in resolution between the UHD and the blu-ray, generally you will prefer the UHD unless you actually are a fan of the blu-ray's cooler color scheme.

I popped this in my 4K player with low expectations...Boy were the 'experts' wrong!
This movie looks PHENOMENAL in UHD! Details, clarity of each frame, deep blacks, no banding or funky stuff happening in dark scenes. Morgan Freeman never looked cooler! Skin tones were as real as they can get, and I was glad there was an actual good plot behind it all!
Sometimes I wonder if those who say that the BD looks better than the UHD are using proper UHD gear and good premium HDMI cables.
5 BIG stars!!!
(I needed me a good movie after watching Dunkirk)
