Okay...now hating a Blu-ray is one thing but making TWO threads to cry about it is just plain idiotic.

It's been talked about to death, and when someone sees the words "The Dark Knight" it's safe to say no matter what region their in they are gonna look at it.

That's the way the director intended it to be. If you don't like that changing ratio, then that's tough. Why should Warners modify the aspect ratio to suit your personal preferences agaisnt the wishses of the director? Maybe they should release a 4:3 version and one for people with black & white TVs too?

Also, how exactly could you "turn it off"? The only way would be to have duplicate footage of all the imax scenes with the top and bottom part of the picture chopped off and have seamless branching. That would be an absurd waste of space on the disk just so you could have part of the picture missing.

Warner didn't "**" anything up with the Blu-ray release. They did, however, do a great injustice to the DVD version by eliminating the aspect shifting. Perhaps that's the solution you are looking for? Sacrifice the video/audio/artistic quality if you so wish by giving the Blu-ray to one of many who will appreciate the far superior benefits of the Blu-ray over a pitifully insignificant detail such as the aspect ratio switching a few times during the movie and get the DVD for yourself.

It's not really annoying at all. Sometimes you don't even notice it. That being said, the IMAX shots look freaking incredible.

its because some scenes were shot by Imax cameras and the rest was not. Nolan decided which scenes were going to be filmed by the Imax camera and the rest of the movie will be shot in by a regular camera that most movies use. So which means the Imax scenes will be in 1.78.1 and the rest of the movie is in 2:40:1

The world is full of stupid people. I bet you stretch your 4:3 content to fill the whole screen to....

But I don't remember any ratio shifting when I saw TDK at the theater. Or are we talking about a director's cut for Bluray ?

The aspect ratio changes were not in the prints released to standard Theatres, but were included in prints released to IMAX theares.

I've no problem with this feature of the movie at all, the Imax stuff does look incredible and as others have said, you don't really notice it if you are watching the movie. As opposed to picking holes in the picture!

I prefer the Imax images versus the other one. Maybe Warner will re-release this with both the regular and Imax versions of the films?

I like the aspect shifting.
perhaps it should remain an option to turn off, but most people seem to like this or not even notice.
I admit that first time I saw this in theaters there was no aspect shifting, but then again it was a regular theater. The second time was in an IMAX screen and the presentation was AWESOME! The IMAX scenes filled the entire screen while the regular ones were only a strip in the middle. It was noticeable, but still enjoyable. The only scene I didn't like it in was when he was driving his car down the road, they would show him full screen and all other scenes in standard. It was awkward in the IMAX screen, but on the Blu-ray, since the aspect of our 16:9 TVs is not the same as an IMAX screen, it was much better.
They actually still cut off the top and bottom of the IMAX presentation to make sure it filled our screens, which makes it far less annoying than in the theater, which was hardly annoying.
Overall, I think it was a great move to keep this in the Blu-ray release, something that the DVD would not offer. Why? Because even an anamorphic DVD can cut off the sides of the film to make it fill a 16:9 screen, while Blu-ray keeps the Original Aspect Ratio in all their films with the exception of IMAX presentations.
Seriously though, this was a great move, but perhaps letting people turn it off would have quelled the few upset people like yourself.

And for the others saying it sounds annoying and are glad you didn't get this... don't hate it till you try it. Seriously. Rent it, watch it, then decide if it is annoying to you. Don't think about it, just watch the movie.
