I really have no clue where to post this, whether it be the HDTV section, or the dark knight mega thread, or where ever.
So anyway I go into circuit city the other day and they have their newest, nicest 120htz, etc etc samsung TV right as you walk in the store. Now every time I see the picture quality of the newer tv's I think it looks a LOT better than my crappy old 1080i hd picture I get at home. Well to get to my point I went in the other day and they had clips from dark knight playing and it was simply amazing! Like, the best picture I have ever seen...PERIOD!! It was like bluray on cocaine! I can't even describe how good it looked. I really thought the joker was going to come out of the tv and slap me! Anyone have any insight? They just release some new technology, or is dark knight just going to look that good. BTW it was the scene from the bank robbery... |

it's their poorly calibrated T.V.s..... that and they're probably a lot nicer 120hz plasmas etc.... than you have..... but over-saturated colors etc to give it a cartoon-ish look.... you may say "wow" but I wouldn't calibrate my television like that

Keep in mind:
Yours 1080i theirs 1080p therefore brighter richer Yours Old and looses broghtness over time Theirs = Brand new Bank robber scene = Filmed in IMAX therefore no real reference to compare it to, and I can assure you, the studio when encoding that did the best job possible for that scene to lure people for sure. It looks amazing that scene. It was on a recent movie as a preview (I forget which one edit...uhh yeah duh Batman Begins). It does look impressive for sure. |

HAHA other than the fact that it was a samsung I have no clue. and to all comparing the clip to my TV, I know it will obviously look a lot better than my TV, but this looked better than any video I have ever seen when in circuit city on the same TV. So the fact that it is shot for IMAX will make it look better/give it that crazy popping out of the screen 3D look? I need to buy planet earth then, isn't that filmed for IMAX?

The sib-field drive runs at 480Hz, making sure there is plenty of time to lock onto interlaced signals and 3:2 cadences before sending to the screen, but the screen only refreshes at 60Hz or 48Hz (800U/850U in filmic mode) You don't need 120Hz with a plasma - it's already fast enough. 120Hz is a gimmick as long as the original content is filmed at either 24Hz, 30Hz or 60Hz. |

My wording is correct. My point is/was, that no matter how good any LCD is, a Panasonic plasma is better. The Kuros have better PQ, but with a higher price and much higher failure rate, the Panasonics are a much better value.

Understood. However...the information on the "much higher failure rate" is completely untrue.

compared to a Panasonic...everything is much higher. I still want a Pioneer 5020. I would lock the door and turn the lights off in a room full of sailors 6 months away from shore leave to get one. But if I had to pay for it, the Panasonics are a more consumer friendly option.
