Check out my level guys:

Mr.Driller: Drill, Sackboy, Drill / KatanaStrikes

- Level based on the Mr. Driller games. Dig down through the different levels. Short but colourful.
- UK

Hope you like!

I hope to finish a level I'm working on towards the end of this week. I have about a third left to finish - and only a third left of on the themometer. . . I'm frightened!

It is d@mn tricky making a level that is specific to multiplayer.

One issue I have been trying to work out is this:

How do you have a race in LBP? The issue is - the camera follows the host. So, if someone gets ahead of the host, they can't see themselves and will die off screen eventually.

Anyone know a way around this?

I have come up with my own solution, but I'm hoping you all have something better cause my solution will use up a lot of themometer space.

This will be a race level that is specific for to multiplayer. It should be a lot of fun with a friend. . . I hope.

the only thing i can think of is pan out the camera for the whole level... but that sounds like it'll really eat the thermometer...

Well, you can only pan out so far. . . camera angles don't seem to take up themometer space too much.

Even with that it doesn't quite work if the host is the one losing and doesn't keep up. The level is fairly intricate and takes lots of twists, turns and jumps and falls.

Unfortunately, one thing I had to do was shorten the races (there are 3 within the level). Would be nice if there was a split-screen option, although it is not needed for most levels. But to have a "true" race, you'd need split-screen.

I have a few ideas - but everything will eat the themometer space.

How about attaching a chain to both vehicles? Sort of like the lead one would be towing the other car? Depends on how much space the vehicle takes up and how much long the chain is though.

Ugh i used to HATE that in Mario Kart. The guys in the back would always get the best items, and absolutely pummel the guy in first place. So neither of them win and the guy in the middle of the pack ends up getting first.......

In xenogears if you turned on rubber band mode on it connect to the two mechs to a huge rubber band... and pushing one directly would pull the other....

That's a good idea - but there are too many twists, turns and drops in my level for that.

I could give it a test run and see - what I really need is someone to help me beta run my level. It's not done, but I'd rather catch big issues early on (or simple learn that it just won't work .)

I wanted to do something different and not only create a level that "could" be played multiplayer, but was designed for it.

It's very tricky to make a race in LBP. I'm also including lots of other things to try and keep it interesting (in other words, the race will include more than just my vehicles).

Btw, I thought I had a cool design for a vehicle - I just played a level today and someone already had done the same exact design. Oh well, I guess we can't all be original. I do at least hope that I'm original in how I'm putting them to use. (His level just had it going down a hill and stopping.)

I tried to play my level with BorrowedTime, but the connection was cr@ppy on the LBP servers.

Hope to catch one of you on soon to help me test my level out.

If I see you on I'll send you a message to try it out. I usually find ways to screw something up in a level LOL Maybe then I'll get a better idea and might think of something that could work also.

I still need the party person trophy. Anyone still interested here or wanting to help me get it ? Shouldn't be too hard to arrange to get this. PM back in here and we can setup something.

Of the basic trophies (not including play, create, and share) I only need Socialite - complete a level with 3 people NOT on your friendlist. Everytime I try to find random people to play with it almost always ends up being just 2 of us. I think I had 3 player once for all of 10 seconds.

Then there are the play, create, and share trophies.

Play - ace all of the story levels. I just need to hunker down and do this one, one day.

Share - play 150 community levels, tagging 30, and hearting 10. This one is just gonna take time, like the Play trophy, just need to hunker down and get to it.

Create - earn 50 hearts on levels you create, and earn 30 as a player. Well.... this one is out of my hands. 18 hearts short personally, and 12 hearts short on my levels. I'm kinda giving up hope on this one. It's not just the number of plays, my levels have garnered that disappoint me, but the number of people that have finished them in comparison.

I think 1 in 10 people (maybe less) have finished one of my levels. Honestly, I don't think they're that hard (well, one might be challenging from a purely platforming point of view - Winter Games), the others I've been dumbing down and republishing to no avail...

CYMBOL,

From what I was able to play, of your new level, I can see a couple of problems cropping up.

The starting section, with the wheels. At the spot where the platform "jumps" the wheels, if someone gets left behind they might be behind for good, especially since you have to guide the wheel from the jump point, in mid air. Or another potential problem might be if one wheel is completely on, but another is not when the jump is triggered, physics will send one of the wheels in a completely different direction than is intended.

Another problem I came across was right after the jump, when the wheel comes to a stop, I couldn't get off the wheel. Maybe it was just me, but I think the jumping mechanics might not be forgiving enough for one of the racers to get off the wheel. But, admittedly, I didn't really have time to test further, as I finally got booted from your level, after you got kicked from the server.

Maybe you could set up your level as a series of shorter race sections (since the players are awarded points for finishing in a certain order anyways, and you can use a cumulative score to determine an overall winner), instead of one long one, with more checkpoint gates to compensate for players being left behind, off screen.

The last point might be moot, because like I said, I only got so far into the race before we lagged out, and wasn't able to get much farther past the "wheel jump".

Yep, that is by design. That way, if you were too far behind - you don't make it. If you both or all (it is 3 player) make it, then it will be a close race.

The end of the that particular part of the race is right at the top with a check point soon after. I have check points very close together throughout the level.

Later in the level you can spring booby traps on each other to keep getting ahead and get point bubbles since the objective should be who gets the top score at the END of the level - not just each race. (You didn't make it to the booby traps. )

I ended up playing with 4 other people last night. It went well, but some people had problems getting in/out of the wheel. Others, had no issues. I think the problem is, people automatically "jump" - instead of pushing back or foward, which is all that is often needed. It was very difficult designing the archectiture around the Power-Balls so that everyone could get in and out and see what they were doing. Lots of time spent on design there.

Also, I didn't want the same set up for each race, so each Power-Ball race starts a bit different - the next one "drops" everyone into the race.

Great minds think a like - like I said, it is already set up that way - LOTS of check points throughout. Especially because the the booby traps. Sure, it's fun setting off a bomb to drop on someone - but it wouldn't be any fun to race by yourself - so, after you get the bubble points - there is a checkpoint right after to get them back in the race (or, if they die because they couldn't keep up - they get right back in the race at the next check point).

I found some other glitches which I've fixed. The biggest thing will be people figuring out how to get in and out.

Just have to finish this thing now. As with all my levels - it has gotten to big and it seems the themometer is growing in leaps and bounds - I may have to end it early.

My LBP level was played by over 1,000 people in only one day (yesterday)!!!

It seems my level finally made it to the critical point where it stays in the Cool Levels rotation or something because I no longer have to republish my level for it to get played a couple of times an hour and then never again.

I'm so happy, and yes I know nobody else cares but this is the highlight of my day. (That is extremely sad I admit)
