I thought the 65 nano started in the metal gear solid 4 ps3 bundle. I was recently told that half of those bundles are 90 nano chip size and the other half 65 nano chip size. He said all of the 2007 metal gear 4 ps3 bundles were all made with the 90 nanochip while the 2008 model metal 4 bundle are the one's that have the 65 nano chip.
Can anyone confirm this? Very important....thanks ![]() |

Well as MGS4 wasn't released in 2007 I doubt they had a MGS bundle then.

I'm asking ANYONE that KNOWS this for sure if they can confirm this to be true. I was told the motor storm bundle has the 90 nano chip & only the 2008 model metal solid bundle has the 65 nano, not the 2007 metal gear bundle. Is this true? I've searched online and can find nothing to confirm this. |

It is supposed to be much cooler than the other models. I've had 4 60 gigs already. FOUR, guess what, i had 3 of them in a very open shelf on it's own and they over heat or get so hot that the lazer starts to skip on dvd's. I'm tired of wasting money on 60 gigs cause i need that backward compatibility so i was told that using the old 80 gig model will be better since it has that backward compatibility even though it's an emulator instead of the emotion engine, and will be alot cooler and use less energy.
I need that backward compatibility and i need it to run cooler. That is why i need to know which of the 80 gig, metal gear solid 4 bundle (what year though) and motor storm bundle (what year though) HAS that 65 NANO built in. I need the experts on this one!! |

I need the back comp. cause i have alot of old school rpgs from ps1 & ps2 expecially. I looked them up to see if they would work on the 80 emulated ps3 version and it says it would. The issue is finding out WHICH one has that 65 Nano so i can go buy it. I'm done with 60 gigs, 4 already. I paid so much money for them and they were all new. This last one, i didn't even have it a YEAR yet, bought brand new and STILL the same thing. I know i can fix it with the warranty but i'm done with it.

If your having heating issues, just do what i did. I hooked up 2 120mm usb fans behind the ps3. keeps it nice and cool and you really cant see them during the day, and they are hidden at night in the dark.
well, technically, i didnt use usb fans, i cut a usb cable and spliced it onto 2 molex connectors for the fans. still works though. |

Ya they get hot, but something must be seriously wrong at your place. There is a Youtube video of heat resistance testing of PS3's. They put it in a temperature controlled room and ran the PS3 at full tilt for 24 hours in varying temperatures. At one point the casing of the Ps3 was beginning to melt and yet it continued to run. I can't remember the numbers, suffice to say that it was running in very warm temperatures.

All i need to know is if the metal gear solid 4 bundle ps3 version has the 65 nano or the 90. Cause some guy said that it's the motor storm bundle that has the 90 and the metal gear solid 4 40gig bundle, those have the 90 nano chip he said and the 80 gig metal gear solid 4 bundle is the one with the 65 nano but no one here seems to know for sure. I've been here for HOURS online trying to find out what nano set it has for sure. Since it came out in June 2008 i'm ASSUMING that the metal gear 80 bundle has the 65 nano. But if ANYONE knows for sure, hook me up so i can read about it. |

I did that once too. Accidentally turned it on and didn't notice with the glass door on, then when I got home about 6 hours later the fan was going full tilt for who knows how long. And it was very hot in the cabinet.
I was so scared, but there was no damage or anything and my Ps3 still works about 6 months later so it must've been ok. I decided to move my Ps3 out of the cabinet though just because. Now the fan purrs like a kitten, I can rarely hear it unless it's a quiet part of the game/movie and I'm paying attention. |

+1. Very strange you had some many heat issues with the 60 gig. You weren't using that Mad Catz cooler add-on were you??? The only stories I heard about people's PS3 overheating were people that bought that dumb attachment.

I asked for a manager and they wouldn't put one on. I asked y is it that they have workers like him that don't know the product they are supposed to be giving info on. He kept saying sorry. I told him that sorry isn't answering the question and to put ANYONE on that could tell me what seems to be a question that one needs a masters to answer with a miracle.......does the metal gear solid 80 gig, not 40 gig bundle, have the 65 nano since it came out in 2008 of june and not the 90 nano chip.......he put me on hold for close to 10 minutes to come back and say sorry and that he can't find anyone who knows........so i just hung up. Ur telling me no sony manager, supervisor or rep knows what models carry what nano chip? How retarded is that? |

I just bought each 60 gig, one to replace the other, when i had issues. The first time i had it in a cabinet, the last 3 times it had alot of air on it's own shelf. They just don't last me past a year. This last 60gig isn't even a year old and if i use it too much it skips the dvd's. I'm done with 60 gigs. That's why i want to make sure the 80 gig metal gear bundle has that 65 nano chip, this way i know it will run cooler and be made better out of the box without having to alter anything like buying fans, etc. It seems not even sony themselves can answer this question.

I know you want a 100% sure answer, but my guess is that they introduced the 65nm cpu at the same time they took away the BC. i thought they brought it in at the same time they changed last, which was the 80gb and 160gb version of the old 40 gig.... which never had BC.
