I have 20/15 in both eyes, and I didn't notice an uptick. And the fact that we have different experiences indicates that a debate is justified, and possibly even beneficial. It only turns crappy when someone (not you, Sauron ) can't handle civil disagreement and would rather fight about it.

btw: I directly asked you about the bright dark scenes, and you've ignored the inquiry. This seems quite fishy

I also like this spin on it.

Regarding the "light dark" scenes, I have no recollection of being bothered by anything that fits that description. My TV's settings are calibrated to the darker end of the spectrum which might combat any unnatural brightness that might be there. Wasn't an issue for me. I'll look out for it next time I watch it but I can't imagine it will eclipse the myriad other ways that the UHD beat out the BD.

So I was right:

If someone were to view them both independently without knowing which one they were viewing, the only way one would be able to tell the difference is if it was during one of those first scenes, and the winner would be the Supreme.
One is 1080p the other is 2160p + HDR...Nuff said

For the second time: There are numerous blu-rays that have multiple releases in which the one with a lower bitrate has better PQ. How do you explain this in your worldview of on-paper specs being the definitive metric?

Many movies that are actually better in 1080p then HDR, but whatever.

I don’t know about many. Of the 100 titles I own I can only think of one where the BD is better and that’s the Expendables 3 and only because they ****ed up the HDR and blacks are literally grey. I’ve heard Oblivion’s BD is better but haven’t watched the UHD yet.

Granted, I had a similar experience with the Supreme BD but it was even more enhanced on the UHD. Special effects shots also seemed more vivid to me.

It's right up there with the Blade Runner in terms of UHDs that showed off detail I never knew was there.
This may take the cake for the most under-appreciated UHD disc of 2017.

Not only is there a noticeable difference in detail from the standard BD--but in typical Sony fashion, the video bitrate is consistently higher. There's great foreground and background separation. Colors are natural, but also lush (even in dark scenes). Textures on costumes, props, and dresses, really feel genuinely lifelike, but not artificially so.

There's so much to love about this release.

The fact that BrassTax put this on his top-10 Worst UHD releases of 2017 list, further reminded me of how utterly moronic that guy and his videos are.

Yup, great release and upgrade. It shows how good Sony is at what they do when they take a reference BD and and make it that much better.

If you say his name 3 times Tax will appear.

here is some where either the BD is better or the same

Bram Stocker Dracula, The 4K is a little sharper than the Blu Ray

teenage mutant ninja turtles out of the shadows, the same as the Blu Ray is.Warcraft, Blu Ray Has better colors

Oblivion on Blu Ray looks fantastic, on 4K I don't know

But saying that HDR will look always look better then 1080p is not always the case.

Just like it was with DVD when Blu ray came out, some looked good others was worst then the DVD was.

Suicide Squad good example, the Blu Ray looks much better then the HDR does.

Hmmm, I think Dracula’s 4K is a good upgrade. I haven’t seen the other so I dunno. But yeah, just because it has HDR doesn’t mean it’s better, you’re right. But I will say this, I would take a slightly softer image with good HDR over a BD. That might just be me though.

I sold off my copy of Stokers Dracula in UHD. I was not impressed. It was trivially better in some shots but overall I felt I gained nothing by watching the UHD over my exisiting blu-ray. HDR or not, this title IMO is quite skippable regarding rebuying it if you already have the good blu-ray version.

Same here, I traded mine for another movie from a member on here. Just wasn't a huge difference over the Blu Ray which is rare because most of the 4k discs look better than the Blu Ray by a good bit.

And Sony discs tend to look amazing most of the time. If all did that level of quality on UHD....

The use of HDR was top notch in some scenes

Sure, a few scenes. But that doesn’t justify keeping it for me. Older catalog titles have to be really, really impressive to me to rebuy a title I already own a good version of on bluray. Little HDR enhancements or sharpness here and there isn’t enough. IMO.
