The reason why anything gets retained on an emissive display is that it's a fixed area of sufficiently high contrast to stand out against the background, this is why their custom burn in pattern affected some of those colour slides much worse than others instead of showing an even application of burn to each slide: the pattern contrasted more on some colours than others.

But I don't mean that the entirety of the borders themselves will get burned in if that's what people think I'm saying, leaving big dark bands at the top and bottom of the screen. No. Lemme explain: the thing with black bars is that you've got a VERY hard delineation between the absolute darkness of the bars and whatever image brightness is contained with the active picture area, it's that line of demarcation between them that ended up getting retained over time on my plasma, so when playing "full frame" content I could literally see the lines top and bottom where the 2.35 bars would normally go, especially on darker scenes.

Discussing burn- is a FAR cry from people acting like its common and gauranteed which it isnt. So dont go playing that "card". I dont have to defend anything. I simply prefer the best PQ available and the correct way to attain that is to buy an OLED.

For those that tend to watch CNN or news channels all day with obnoxious logos or tend to fall asleep in front of the TV every night and cant be bothered to use a sleep timer then yes, please go to Wal Mart and buy an LCD.

There's been a lot of Oled bashing going lately. Burn-ins, low nit range, near-black issues...Meanwhile we still own the best overall panel there is out there!

Sure thing - just like how everyone hates the Patriots or the Yankees or The Penguins in hockey. When you keep WINNING it pisses off those that dont win. Then, they start to dig.... and I mean DIG super-deep to knock ya down.

Oh well - back to my "junk" OLED with perfect contrast, viewing angles, awsome uniformity, killer 3D and great HDR performance.

IMDB sez: shot in 1080p on the Panavision Genesis for a 2K finish. Sounds about right and although people will recoil in horror at the mention of 1080p, it had a large 3-perf 35mm-sized sensor (not some 2/3" tiddler) and a proper RGB structure to that sensor, not a Bayer array. Fine camera.

Exactly. The constant pushback and posturing, and condescending comments are more distracting than people discussing burn-in. (which I really haven't seen much of on the 4K forum).

Finally, there is nothing more pointless than all of the "well MY tv doesn't have any burn-in issues" that I see all the time in response to people posting screenshots of IR and burn-in.

Everyone knows OLEDs are nice. No one knows how they are gonig to behave five years from now. To people who replace their TVs every 2-3 years it doesn't matter. To someone with lower income whom only purchases an expensive set every 8-10 years, it matters a great deal.

Well, to be fair I'm arrogant as **** most of the time on here, I just don't do it on behalf of OLED.

Well, yes. I was kind of kidding there. But yeah. The whole thing is just getting old and unfortunately as I’ve said I come to this website to escape the overly dramatic and pointless burn in banter. So it does rile ya up after a while.

Again, I’m probably too exposed to this stuff trying to deal with it at AVS which then sets me off if I see any discussion of it here. There is some nonsense being posted here too but I have to be better about trying to ignore it. Guess that’s on me.

I don't frequent AVS a great deal any more and only fleetingly look at the TV threads on AVF so you'll forgive me if I'm wielding the whole "OLED haz burnin" thing like a kid with a new toy. But don't take your frustrations out on me, daddy! I'm a good boy really.

Of course OLEDs have retention. Why is this even a debate? To some they are the best panels on the planet, others feel differently. If you paid for the panel and like it who cares what others think? I personally wouldn’t buy an OLED but my opinion shouldn’t matter if your happy with it.

Retention is totally different than burn-in. The whole thing stems from the ranting and overly dramatic anti-OLED gang making hysterical claims that all OLEDs are going to burn in and giving false information to prospective buyers. The vast majority of users will never get burn in and most(not all) that do probably have an edge use case where they should have bought an LCD.

But yeah, its cool.

They try to make burn-in a deal breaker, is what they are doing. Something based on which Oled is not recommneded. That is a lie.

I’ve seen burn in on a OLED but yeah you are right, most wont experience that. There are so many variables when I decide which panel to buy as I’m sure you do. OLED’s can look gorgeous so I’m with you on that.

I'd love to have an OLED. But I leave my TV idle for long periods of time and have marathon gaming sessions so an OLED isn't the best choice for me. Movies probably look the best on OLEDs but I also enjoy the high brightness of an LCD.

If money was no object, I'm not sure what I'd choose. Probably one of each!
