In my own movie content reviews, I'll sometimes use parenthetical referencing to make subtle winks at knowledgeable readers.

"Jennifer Connelly (Career Opportunities) delivers her most multi-layered role yet."

"James Stewart (Airport '77) is the highlight of this under-recognized western."

Most of the time, though, I simply look at an actor's two most popular roles according to IMDb.

Sometimes I wonder about these parentheticals, When I read something like "... and featuring Marlon Brando (On the Waterfront, The Godfather)," am I supposed to slap my head and say "Oh, yeah, that Marlon Brando"? Marketing people gotta eat, too, I suppose.

I don't bother with the parenthetical references for iconic actors. Most people know who Marilyn Monroe is, for instance.

One of the masterpieces of the 90s, "Heat" stars Robert De Niro (Dirty Grandpa), Al Pacino (Jack and Jill), Jon Voight (Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2), Val Kilmer (Twixt), and Tom Sizemore (Tons of terrible shit he probably has no recollection of making).

You know the really horrifying thing? For some people, those really are their best known films. 'Coz, y'know, nothing good was ever made before they were born and all.

There's a whole generation that knows Eddie Murphy as a tame family entertainer, Al "I'll do anything" Pacino as that shouty shouty guy who fancies Adam Sandler in drag and Robert de Niro as that semi-comatose grumpy comedy guy who just phones it in. I'm afraid most of us have reached that "Hey dad, did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before he was in Wings?" stage. Or, for a more modern equivalent, "Did you know before he was in Transformers, Mark Wahlberg used to be in a hip-hop group?"

Yeah, I dig it.

Going back to the trollish approach, who can forget this priceless South Park episode:

"From Steven Spielberg, director of such films as Always and 1941..."

The thing that always seems funny to me is, even granting that they are the best known films [and, in the case of "Copland", it looks like they were all just the most recent films], that just circles back to the question of "What's the point?" Is it for people who don't know who Robert De Niro is by name, but would remember him positively when you say "That guy who was in Analyze That and Meet the Parents"? For it to make sense from a marketing perspective, apparently they will sell more copies by marketing it to people who like Robert De Niro but not enough to remember his name without prompting? But if it really had a positive impact on marketing, it would be more prevalent on movie posters; I have seen posters and cover art where they have to explain who a person is under their name, but it's pretty rare, and always a sign of a low budget movie.

It's like opening a Best Man speech with "For those of you who don't know me..." If somebody knows who you are, they don't need it, and if they don't know, they don't care. At least Kino is cross-promoting other titles, that makes sense to me.

Well, there is that surefire sign of a failed Oscarbait movie where the trailers and poster bill the cast as 'Academy Award Winner' or 'Academy Award Nominee' even though they didn't win or were nominated for that film. Whenever you see that it's a fair bet the movie is a stinker.

Also, will this be a KLSC title like GBU? I saw a thread here saying it’s coming via Kino Classics.

BTW, these are iconic artworks for this film & I really love them! This is probably my most favorite Leone film & I already preordered it.
The film will carry the title A FISTFUL OF DYNAMITE with (Duck, You Sucker!) under the title. We just scanned this from 35mm elements.

This is a KLSC release.

If you get another MGM deal finalized, please consider Dreamchild (1985).

Makes perfect business sense, but when I read "Directed by the legendary John Frankenheimer (The Holcroft Covenant)...", I can't help but chuckle.
THE HOLCROFT COVENANT makes sense for releases like THE FOURTH WAR, THE CHALLENGE, 52 PICK-UP, that target audience is usually not interested in SECONDS or GRAND PRIX.

Here are our Frankenheimer releases and the credits as they appear on the packaging:
THE CHALLENGE (The Manchurian Candidate)
THE TRAIN (The Manchurian Candidate)
THE YOUNG SAVAGES (The Manchurian Candidate)
THE FOURTH WAR (52 Pick-Up)
52 PICK-UP (The Manchurian Candidate)
THE HOLCROFT COVENANT (The Manchurian Candidate, The Train, 52 Pick-Up)
THE ICEMAN COMETH (The Manchurian Candidate, The Train)

I've been hoping someone gets Panga, it hasn't been available since VHS. I thought Scream might since they did Curse and Curse II but so far no dice.
