Oh that's right, I forgot DreamWorks own this movie in North America, so you're right, there's a very slim chance it'll ever be released on 4K in America.
I might as well import it from Germany I guess.

Universal doesn't own distribution rights to Gladiator. But Paramount does.

Definitely not as attractive as my imported BD Steelbook, but still no slouch.

Amazon Italy always shows wrong audio details.

You mean the Amazon page itself? I wouldn't rely on those languages being the UHD set - they are just the set on the regular BD. Given it's Universal internationally, there's the possibility it will be DTS:X. Doubt it would get the Atmos treatment.

Of course there's also the inconvenient little fact that 5.1 just so happens to be the actual release format of the movie.

All the Amazons do, this is still four months out so it's just placeholder information. Peeps need to chill

Why?

Universal did the work for Paramount's Blu-ray back in 2009. They could easily do the work for this UHD (since they have the elements Paramount/Dreamworks do not have) for both of them again.

so wait, I'm confused (as I've lately been) ... this in the States will be released by Paramount, as the bluray edition was, correct? - isn't there a likelihood that Paramount will be a Dolby Vision release as most of their UHD's lately have been?

US/Canada - Paramount
Mostly everywhere else - Universal

Since this was a Dreamworks film initially released on DVD by Universal, Paramount doesn't have the original elements. Universal produced the Blu-ray for both themselves and Paramount. Unless Paramount finally got the materials, the same will happen for UHD.

Universal did not produce both Blu-ray discs... Paramount had thier own disc authored. The only thing Universal provided was the master, and the supplement materials.

I know, because I worked on them.

So is this the case where we could ultimately see two different UHD BD transfers...or will it be the same one?
