I can't stand the janky digibook packaging of the UK set so I've been storing my BR 4K disc in the 5-disc case that I had for the Blu-ray SE version, but after getting some 3-disc UHD cases in (gracias amigo) I put the 4K, the workprint & extras disc and the 'archival versions' disc in there with the cover. It looks rather nice IMO, and not a ratings logo in sight! Yay! But it's in Spanish language! Boo! (Not that I have problem one with that but I know how people can be ).

The Five-Disc Collector's Edition artwork looks mighty good in the black UHD case!

I've upgraded mine too! The complete consolidated three discs from the 30th anniversary digibook replacing the incomplete selection of discs in the US 4K release.

And a tray case upgrade because stacked discs are lame.

Wow, nice!
I have mine in the case it arrived in!
But my Blade Runner suitcase is still safe and sound and tucked away.

Nice! I don't know why they didn't to this properly. Did they have a massive stash of the 5-disc edition left over or something, sitting in some warehouse for the past 10 years? Would have liked to do the same as you but I don't have the 3-discer so I guess I'll just have to hang on to the old fatso.

Yeah this is what I did. The UHD and the old 3-disc LE in one 4-disc UHD case, the one that came with Logan to be specific. I have no issue with the black and white Logan discs being in storage instead of on the shelf.

Speaking of lame packaging. This is how I got my Nordic version of BR when it was released.

No stacked discs but you just can't beat that paper sleeve .

How many of you would like your pad to actually look like Deckard's? I found the details fascinating

Too cluttered and grimy for my tastes. Nice for a movie, awful for real life.

Too bad Sean Young really didn't age well. I remember being so turned off by Lois Einhorn in Ace Ventura Pet Detective when I was a kid and that movie was new. Some women lose it when they hit 30, some at 26, some even in their early 20s.

Man she really turned the corner sometime before 1990. Yikes. You can see that she doesn't have it anymore even in 'Wall Street' in 1987 when she was only 27. She looked so incredible in Blade Runner and Dune too.

I thought she looked good in AV.

Finally had the opportunity to watch this in full last night. Fantastic detail and HDR, compression is impressive for the most part the way it retains the fine grain, though that chroma blockiness underneath and on edges crops up now and then, and in a few places it really breaks up. Seems the compression difficulties may be the opposite of what they were in the BD days, used to be darker areas were always the big issue, now it's the strong highlights instead. The sun backdrop in Tyrell's office is artifact city, the lights during Leon's VK test are also affected etc. Even the title credits are artifacted with pinkish blobs as they first appear, and then pop into place as if hitting a keyframe.

The UHD also revealed an absolutely horrible FC restoration or compositing mistake or something that I don't remember having noticed before, where during Deckard's walk through Animoid Row huge swathes of the image are completely blurred and they really stick out next to the areas with fine 4K grain.

Also spent some time comparing the soundtracks and decided I'm fine with the 2017 remix despite some quibbles. The biggest improvement for me is that the 2007 mix still sounds kind of hollow and distant and shows its age at times, and this has been reduced to some extent on the 2017 one, with especially dialogue sounding bit fuller and more present:
2007|2017

The other big difference is the addition of background atmosphere, mainly in the form of additional rain, humming/noise in Deckard's apartment and so on. I like it, sounds a bit more enveloping and... atmospheric:
2007|2017

The replaced sound effects I could have lived without, but that may have been necessary to do the Atmos panning and stuff, like new flapping sounds for Tyrell's owl. New spinner and gun sounds (again), meh. In general they're also more explosive than they were previously, maybe a bit too much at times. Here's an example from the elevator in Deckard's apartment, plus they've used that stock sliding door sound that's in every show and game with a sliding door ever (this example also shows a bit of reduced hollowness):
2007|2017

There are also some specific instances I felt were rather unnecessary. I've seen the opening so many times that initial screaming fire on the 2017 mix doesn't sit quite right. Halfway through Holden's tortoise speech the dialogue turns even more muted and distant, but it doesn't really add anything. Then when Deckard is analyzing the photo of Zhora on the Esper, the final shutter sound has been replaced for whatever reason:
2007|2017

Also on some of the dialogue during the meeting with Rachael and Tyrell, the reverberation is noticeably reduced on the 2017 mix, a shame as the scene loses a bit of its magic in my opinion:
2007|2017

As always it would have been nice with both mixes but overall I find the positives outweigh the negatives so I won't fret about it.

^Quality nit-picking. Totally agree on video and audio comparison were really interesting. I'm not that much into audio and rarely notice small differences like this. But I think the new mix is much finer. But I also think the new mix on Terminator '84 fits much better with the remastered video, so what do I know.

Man, I HATE that new fire plume effect right at the start. It's just not the same. I noted several of those audio changes you mentioned in the post I've quoted below, so now I know it's not just me!! Did you catch the change to the music when Deckard steps onto his balcony wrapped in a sheet? In all the previous mixes the first cue fades out over the top of the next one as it starts, but in the new mix the first cue stops and then the next one starts.

I'm still not a fan of this new mix, as when bitstreamed and played back as TrueHD 7.1 the music and effects are so overbearing as to drown out the dialogue, which of course makes all the changes stand out so much more. But I switched my player to PCM output as recommended and listed in 5.1 and it sounded much better balanced, significantly so.

As for the audio, I noted a few more changes: when Deck first arrives at Tyrell the sounds of the owl taking off, swooping across and landing are completely different. When Deck's on the Esper machine looking at the photo the very last zoom-in that he does on Zhora's face alters the classic camera shutter-style sound to something resembling a clacking typewriter - only it's just that one bit as the rest of the scene has the proper Esper sound effects. During this scene the sounds of all the noises whooshing outside have been brought way up too, I mean the scene starts out that way even on the FC 5.1 mix but as the camera moves in tighter and tighter on Deck's face the background noises are progressively dialed back, likely to indicate Deck's concentration just as the tighter camera angles are, but on the new mix the swooping and the wooshing just carries on at the same volume throughout the scene. Nuance? What nuance? Let's fill the sound field to the brim just because we can! Make surround sound great again!

Dug out my SPL meter too, the new mix played in 7.1 is a good 4-5dB hotter than the previous FC 5.1 mix. There's no dialnorm at work here, it really IS that much louder than the old mix as well as having all the alterations and complete readjustment of the interplay of DME in general. I've gotta say, if Scott had any hand in this at all then I know he's finally gone around the bend, not that Prometheus and Covenant weren't glaring indicators to begin with.

I'm not sure I could ever watch the film again if all it was had was that shitbag remix. Hyperbole perhaps but I hate the T1 remix soooooo much.
